Alissa & Michael's charming vintage wedding

How long have you been together? Do you have a proposal story?

Together since 2005 we’d been dating for let’s just say- quite a while! We got engaged while on holiday in beautiful Positano, Italy.

The Wedding

What was your wedding date? 4 October 2014

Location (Ceremony and Reception)

1.     Where?     Fernhill Estate, Mulgoa

2.     What made you choose there? It’s such a stunning property and they let us have our dog Juba there!

3.     How did you find it? A colleague found it for her wedding and was happy to share the details.

How was the weather on the day? Beautiful sunshine.

What made you decide to get married on this particular date? Being a long weekend we thought it would work well for family and friends, and it’s our auspicious date!

The Wedding Details

Theme (if any – colours, features, etc.)? A romantic and classical wedding with vintage charm.

Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from? Blogs such as Hello May and the One Fine Day wedding expo

Wedding Gown (the most important part!)

What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes? Fernhill Estate actually did a photo shoot using a KAREN WILLIS HOLMES dress and I loved the style. I liked the KAREN WILLIS HOLMES facebook page and saw a teaser of a dress that was coming out soon, and from that snapshot I could not stop thinking about it. I had to try it on.

Where have you seen our gowns (if at all) before? Wedding blogs

How many gowns did you try? I had been to two boutiques before visiting KAREN WILLIS HOLMES- the dresses were lovely but not ‘the one’. I think I tried on maybe five different styles at KWH; just to be sure!

Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)? Paddington

What did you especially like about your gown? It was me! Soft and feminine. A beautiful style with the most stunning detailed lace and silky tulle.

Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits? Hugo Boss

What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party? I kept it very simple and only wore a necklace given to me by my husband as a wedding day gift.

Where did you get your shoes from? Alan Pinkus

Did you wear a veil/headpiece? Where did you get this from? Yes, a beautiful cathedral one to complete the look. Also from KAREN WILLIS HOLMES.

What advice would you give brides organizing their wedding? Take inspiration from blogs but don’t get too caught up in all the finer details. Know what is important to you and keep it simple. You want your wedding to be a fun day full of love and happy moments.

What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? People kept telling me you know when it’s the one- and you do! I walked out of the store to think about it but I couldn’t leave without purchasing it that day. When you feel beautiful and can’t walk away - that’s the one!

We loved all our suppliers- they were true professionals and most importantly listened to us and helped us to create the wedding of our dreams.
