How did you meet your (now) husband? Steve & I meet at a hostel bar in Vancouver, Canada. Steve had already been living in Vancouver for 2 years and was thinking about returning home to Melbourne, Australia. I had been in Vancouver for just 3 days when I meet Steve. We stayed for 2 years, then travelled through South America for 3 months before returning home to Australia. It was funny getting to know each other’s family and friends after already being together for 2 years. I’m from Sydney but we made the decision to move back to Melbourne where Steve is from for a few years first before settling down in Sydney for the long haul.
How long have you been together? 5 years in July, 2016
Do you have a proposal story? Yes, a beautiful one! Steve woke me up at 6:45am on a Friday morning and told me to pack a bag for the day. He told me I needed a change of clothes, a swimming costume and running shoes! Weird combo! My first surprise was sky diving in St Kilda, something I always wanted to do! We then drove down the Peninsula and had a fish and chip picnic on the beach in Rye. We then headed over to Peninsula Hot Springs for a couple of hours of relaxing and soaking in the hot baths. Around 5pm we made our way to the final surprise destination which was Port Philip Estate in Red Hill. A waitress showed us towards the wine cellar where she left Steve and I alone and on the marble stair case Steve got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! He had timed it to be that Friday as I was flying to Sydney on Saturday morning to see my family and friends and I was able to share the news with everyone in person.

Location (Ceremony and Reception)
What made you choose there? Steve and I live right by the Botanic gardens and it’s truly just a beautiful spot. The Terrace is like a secret garden hideaway with the city skyline as a backdrop.
How did you find it? We live 2km away and often walk through the gardens
How was the weather on the day? A little overcast, be pretty much perfect. No rain, no wind. The night was warm enough for everyone to stay outside.
What made you decide to get married on this particular date? The warm weather! And we wanted to honeymoon in Europe in June.
The Wedding Details
Theme? White & Rose Gold. Simple, modern and sleek.
Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from? Instagram
Were any aspects of your wedding D.I.Y? If so What? Honey jars as the bomboniere. Pouring super sticky honey into 140 tiny glass jars was tricky! Finished off with a customized sticker. I did a DIY photobooth and had a life-size Instagram frame for guest to pose for photos. We also ordered 100 cheeseburgers from McDonalds which were delivered to the venue at 11pm and handed out to guest! It was a HUGE hit!!!
Bridesmaids – who/relationship? 5 bridesmaids. My cousin Jess was my maid of honor. The other 4, Lauren, Jesse, Merinda & Sarah are school friends who I have known for over 15 years.
Groomsmen – who/relationship? 4 in total, Steve’s two brothers, Brad & Dan along with his 2 best mates, Beau and Josh.
Wedding Gown (the most important part!)
What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes? I saw a photo of a girl in the Prea gown and I was hooked from the moment I saw it. I was the only gown for me. It match my theme and style. Simple, modern and sleek.
How many gowns did you try? 5, including Prea.
What did you especially like about your gown? Everything!!! It’s timeless and beautiful.

Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits? Bossini Mens Wear
What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party? The bridesmaids all wore rose gold accessories

Did you wear a veil/headpiece? Where did you get this from? I wore the cathedral length lace veil from Karen Willis Holmes
What advice would you give brides organizing their wedding? Give yourself time to plan!
What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? Anything extra that is special or you would like to share about your big day. I was all about the little details and special touches. We gave gifts to our parents during the speeches to say thank you. We had a gelato cart arrive for dessert and we had McDonalds deliver 100 cheeseburgers at the end of the night for guest to eat as they headed home.
