Bridget + Gary's classic South Coast Wedding

How did you meet your partner? Gary and I met when we were 16 years old through friends. We started hanging out more and more but it definitely wasn't 'love at first sight'. One day Gary got the courage to ask me if we want to go on a date. He could barely look me in the eye! And since then, we can’t stop looking at each other.

How long have you been together? We have been together for 10 years!

Do you have a proposal story? It was the day before we were due to leave for a 3.5 month Asia trip, and Gary suggested that we go for a walk in the nearby nature reserve as we would be sitting on a plane for a long time. Halfway through we stopped to look at the view, I turned around to find Gary on one knee, he then proceeded to ask me to be his wife. I immediately started to cry and didn't believe him! He had gotten me a beautiful Tiffany & Co.bracelet as I had told him that I would love to design the ring together. My mum and sister were at home visiting me and I couldn't wait to rush home and tell them, Gary had kept it a secret from my whole family. I walked in the door crying and told them what had just happened and we all cried with Gary standing by wondering what to do! We left the next day for Japan as a newly engaged couple. It was an amazing start to our holiday.

The Wedding

What was your wedding date? We got married on March 11th 2017

Wedding Venue? It was held at Jaspers, Berry.

What made you choose here? You can't find a more beautiful setting to get married! Gary and I always wanted a wedding outside of Sydney. From the bridal salon that the girls and I got ready in, to the amazing reception room, Jaspers, Berry was the perfect fit.

How did you find it? Just through looking online at NSW wedding venues.

How was the weather on the day? It had been raining on and off all week leading up to our wedding day. Yet on the day, the weather was perfect! The sun was shining and it was the most beautiful day.

Was there a reason you decided to get married on this date? No, we just new that we like the temperature at that time of year and Jaspers had that day feel so we went for it!

The Wedding Details

Theme? I never really planned a theme as Jaspers, Berry has such a strong look itself. We had a black tie feel about the look of the wedding as it's always fun to get dressed up! I decided to go with whites and rich greens for the flowers to keep it classic.

Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from? Gotta love Pinterest! I knew I always want a black tie wedding so I kept my ideas simple and classic.

Were any aspects of your wedding D.I.Y? If so What? No! It was the one thing I didn't want to have to do anything except turn up and have a blast! Jasper, Berry did everything for me. They did all the flowers, the cake, the food ect. It was great!

Bridal Party

Bridesmaids – who/relationship? I had my big sister as my Matron of Honour and my cousin (who is like a little sister) as my Bridesmaid. They were the best girls to have by my side.

Groomsmen – who/relationship? Gary had his childhood friend as his Best Man and his other close school friend as his Groomsman. They supported Gary through the whole day.

Wedding Gown (the most important part!)

Bridget looked divine in our 'Eddie' gown in Satin Twill.

What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes? I had worked as a Bridal Stylist before and had worked with Karen’s gowns and always loved the quality and make of the gowns. I only went to her store in Paddington and found the one straight away.

Where have you seen our gowns (if at all) before? In working as a Bridal Stylist I had sold other brides a Karen Willis Holmes gown.

How many gowns did you try? I think it was about 5 only at Karen Willis Holmes.

Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)? I went to the Paddington Boutique and Lexy helped me find the one.

What did you especially like about your gown? I felt that old Hollywood glamour in my gown, I loved that it would never date and I knew that in 50 years I would still love it.

Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier? The girls both wore Zimmermann dresses.

Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits? Gary got his tuxedo tailored for him from Oscar Hunt tailors and the boys got their tuxedos from M.J bale.

What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party? I got my headpiece and the bridesmaids earrings from Karen Willis Holmes, made by Stephanie Brown. My earrings were a gift from Gary on the wedding day and I wore the bracelet that he had proposed to me with.

Where did you get your shoes from? My shoes were from Nine West.

What advice would you give brides organizing their wedding? Trust in the people you have hired, whether that is the venue, band or photographer - they do weddings for a living are they are there for you. Also, take a moment on the day of your wedding to take it all in, the day goes so fast!

What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? Trust your gut! Nine times out of ten, one of the first dresses you try on will be the one. Also, trust in your Bridal Stylist, they are trained to know the gowns so well and what works on different body shapes.

Something Old? My Granny’s hanky, she has passed on and it meant a lot to have that on the day.

Something New? My dress!

Something Borrowed? Also, my Granny’s hanky as it has become a family tradition that I will pass it onto my cousin when she gets married.

Something Blue? My garter and the little blue bow that Karen sews into the inside of all her gowns.

We tried to keep most of our vendors local. They were all so amazing and added something special to our day.

Photographer – Petal Photography. Rose's style is relaxed and fun and she made us feel so relaxed and comfortable on the day.

Florist - Jaspers, Berry. The venue took care of nearly everything! We loved their style of flowers and that we didn't have to look around for a florist.

Music - Soul Traders. I always love live music at a wedding and this band was amazing! Our guests couldn’t stop talking about how good the music was. Gary and I were both on the dance floor right until the end

First Dance - ‘Thousand years’ by Christina Perri but sung live by the band.

MC -  My Brother in law (who was amazing!)

Celebrant - Nina De BordeNina was so happy to create the perfect and relaxed ceremony that we wanted.

Cake - Jaspers, Berry. Just like the flowers we were so happy that the venue took care of all of this for us.

Hair + Make-Up - Ethix Hair and Makeup Styling. Yvette was amazing. Her calm and caring nature on the day made me feel so relaxed. She felt part of the family and my make-up and hair were perfect.

Wedding Bands - Bachini Jewellers. We have known the owners for a very long time. It was so lovely having them help us design our rings.
