How did you meet your partner? I had arrived in Tanzania just a week earlier. I went out with some girlfriends to what we thought was a nightclub. It was actually a private whiskey promotion party. Lucky for me, we didn’t get asked to leave, and Augustino was on the guest list. Meeting him, like this made me believe in - 'it's meant to be'.
How long have you been together? 3 years this August
What was your wedding date? 10th April 2017
Ceremony Location? Central Park, NYC.
What made you choose there? Before Augustino, NYC was my greatest love. It was also the first place we visited together outside of Tanzania.
Reception Location? Loeb Boat House, Central Park NYC.
What made you choose there? It’s iconic and beautiful.
How was the weather on the day? 2 days before the wedding it was 4 degrees ... we were pleasantly surprised with an 18-degree day. It was amazing.
Was there a reason you decided to get married on this date? We had booked tickets to Coachella for our honeymoon ... the Monday before worked.
The Wedding Details
Bridesmaids – who/relationship? Due to the size and nature of the wedding, I didn’t really have bridesmaids. I did, however, have one of my brother ’s (who surprised me, arriving in NYC just days before), my mum and an amazing girlfriend- Bec standing beside me. It was beyond special.
Groomsmen – who/relationship? Augustino’s best friend Asante
Wedding Gown (the most important part!)
Dale looked stunning in our BESPOKE 'Aubrey' gown - in stores now!
What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes? Lucky for me, it was the only other shop open at that time. (It was late on a Sunday afternoon).
How many gowns did you try? The 'Aubrey' gown was the second gown I had tried on. In an instant, I called Augustino to see if we could get married in the colder months, so I could wear this amazing dress! From there we decided on NYC, and Coachella for the honeymoon ... the dress started it all.
Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)? High St. Armadale, Melbourne. The girls in there were so patient with me walking up and down the shop and not wanting to take it off every time I tried it on.
What did you especially like about your gown? Can I say the whole thing? I don’t know if I can convey just how much I love this gown. The back, the sleeves, the shoulders, even the way it fell when I had the train tied up. Ah ... just the whole thing!
Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits? The suits we got in NYC (just days before the wedding). We had the bowtie’s and Augustino’s suspenders made out of African print fabric.
What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party? I wore earrings from Swarovski
Did you wear a veil/headpiece? Where did you get this from? My veil was my something borrowed from my lovely girlfriend Peggy.
What advice would you give brides organizing their wedding? Be present. It all goes so fast.
What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? The right one is the one you never want to take off.
Something Old? 2 rings, one from each of my grandmothers.
Something New? My earrings
Something Borrowed? My veil
Something Blue? A beautiful bracelet with a blue charm that was a gift from some very special people.
