How did you meet your partner? We met through a mutual friend
How long have you been together? 5 years
Do you have a proposal story? Elani- I organised a picnic overlooking the harbor in Elizabeth Bay. There were lanterns, tea lights, fairy lights and rose petals and huge white cushions to sit on. There was an enormous spread of cheese and champagne and all of Natalie’s favourite chocolates! Meanwhile, close family and friends were in an apartment across the road waiting. Once I proposed, and Natalie said yes, they ran down the hill to join us as a surprise and we partied all night!
What was your wedding date? 5th August 2017.
Venue + Reception
Bendooley Estate- Berrima (southern highlands)
What made you choose there? We had been there several times together as a couple to have a romantic long lunch. We had some really lovely memories of the place so we decided it was the perfect location for us. Since we were set on having a winter wedding, it was important that we chose somewhere we knew would cater adequately for the cold. We wanted our guests to be warm and comfortable.
How did you find it? As above
How was the weather on the day? Crystal clear, slightly windy
Was there a reason you decided to get married on this date? We wanted a Winter wedding
The Wedding Details
Theme & where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from? We chose a winter/foresty kind of theme. We love the colours of both themes, and the location was perfect for combining them all. The olives, dark greens, golden burnt oranges, creams, whites, browns, bronzes, golds and brass colours.
What did you love about your theme? We both love nature, and we both love simplicity. I have to admit that the simplicity of our wedding theme was certainly defined by intricate details, however, this was successfully pulled off without ever seeming like we were going over the top which is exactly what we wanted. All thanks to everyone involved in making our visions come to life.
The colour combinations of our theme came together to seem warm and inviting and matched the style of our dresses and location.
What kind of atmosphere did the wedding have? The atmosphere was brilliant. The feelings of warmth, love and tenderness filled the room.
Were any aspects of your wedding DIY? No, we had a stylist. Danielle from Something for Fay was our one-stop shop; she made our vision come true. She organised all the suppliers, hired us the styling items and styled the venue on the day. We were blown away when we walked in. Honestly, she captured our theme of a wintery/foresty wedding perfectly. We actually had a laugh once when we sat down to put together our ideas. We told her “we want a forest-like theme, but please, NOT Lord of the Rings!”
Natalie- My sister, Simone Erdedi was our shared maid of honour. Other than Simone, we did not have a bridal party. Simone wore a boutique navy gown, with diamond embellishments around the neckline. It was beautiful, sophisticated and suited her perfectly.
Wedding Gown (the most important part!)
Elani wore the Selena gown & Natalie wore the Liliana gown.
What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes?
Elani- I lived in Paddington for 8 years, over that time I had walked past the KWH shop many times and had seen so many beautiful gowns.
Where have you seen our gowns (if at all) before? Elani- just in the store window.
Natalie - In the Paddington store window.
How many gowns did you try? Elani- I think I tried about 6 all up. The one I chose was the last one I tried.
Natalie - I tried on the Liliana gown first, and knew straight away it was the one I was going to wear on my wedding day. I tried on two others just so my mother and sister had a longer experience with me trying dresses on.
What did you especially like about your gowns?
Elani- I loved the fit and the way the fabric fell. I loved the detail in the bodice and how it was just so classically beautiful. I never pictured myself in a dress so traditional but I just loved it straight away. I also loved that it was not tight, so I could eat as many doughnuts as I wanted!
Natalie - It was simple, elegant but feminine. The details woven into the lace sleeves were traditional with a modern twist and I honestly felt like the dress had been made for me. It wasn’t restrictive, and I felt really relaxed in it. It was also genuinely just a really stunning dress with a gorgeously simple flowing train.
What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party?
Elani - My dress was very classic so I really didn’t want much in the way of accessories. I just chose simple diamond earrings from GP Israel
Natalie - I wore a pair of vintage style Elizabeth Cole Ingrid earrings, they are bold but delicate and really added a statement element to my look.
On my right ear, I wore a gold Elizabeth and James ear cuff. Above the Elizabeth Cole earrings, I wore a pair of my Nona’s small antique diamond stud earrings.
Where did you get your shoes from? Natalie - Valentino
What advice would you give brides organising their wedding?
Elani - just stay organsied and keep up to date with emails and communication. There is a lot to do but if you just take 10 minutes out of your day in the morning before work to sort out what needs doing, then you won’t begin to feel overwhelmed. I also think it’s important to share the workload between the two of you.
Natalie - The best decision we made was going with a location that was experienced with weddings and had their own wedding coordinator to assist us the entire time. Spending the money on a wedding stylist/planner was also a great decision for us. It saved us a lot of stress and time and she made our vision come to life.
What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? Elani - don’t set your mind on a particular style. Just try anything that catches your eye on the day. The style I thought I wanted ended up actually looking horrible on me!
Natalie - Don’t settle for a gown if you don’t feel comfortable in it. Be open to different styles, but ultimately like myself, you just know when it is the right dress for you so stick with it.
Anything extra that is special or you would like to share about your big day.
