Elena & Brendan's Country Victoria Wedding

Background

How did you meet your (now) husband? We met at a “Beautiful Girls” concert in Melbourne.

How long have you been together? 6 years

Do you have a proposal story? I was away for a few days and ended up last minute coming home on the Saturday afternoon. I had dropped into a deli and picked up lots of cheeses and some nice wine and thought we could go for a picnic when I got back. We were sitting in beautiful Yarrawonga on the foreshore and he leant over with a box and asked me. I was in complete shock!!! He totally jumped in on my picnic idea. Very opportunistic. Found out later he had had the ring for 3 months in our house!

The Wedding

What was your wedding date? 26th March 2016

Location (Ceremony and Reception)

Where? St. Patrick’s Church, Whorouly

What made you choose there? It is a stunning little old church in my hometown, that my sisters were both married in and my parents were too.

How was the weather on the day? Gorgeous day- 26 and sunny.

What made you decide to get married on this particular date? It was Easter Long weekend which meant we could spend the whole weekend with our family and friends.

Wedding Gown (the most important part!)

What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes? I loved every single Instagram post, they weren’t typical bridal gowns and they were very affordable!!

Where have you seen our gowns (if at all) before? Instagram and Cosmo Bride

How many gowns did you try? 5 or so.

Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)? High st, Armadale.

What did you especially like about your gown? It made me feel extremely sexy and sleek and I didnt feel like a puffy princess.

Fashion

Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier? Mint Boutique, Yarrawonga

Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits? Judd’s Menswear, Wangaratta- they were the best!!!

What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party? Pearls for bridesmaids and vintage earrings from my mum. Also wore my grandmothers engagement ring that she was originally given.

Where did you get your shoes from? Would you believe- SPORTSGIRL!!!

Did you wear a veil/headpiece? Where did you get this from? Veil- a bridal coturist from Albury/Wodonga made this for me. She is an old friend. Jillian Franklin Designs

The Wedding Details

Theme? I didnt really have a theme. The reception was in an old tobacco shed next to my parents farm. (My dad was a tobacco grower) so we wanted to make sure we created a really brightly lit room with lots of flowers.

Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from? My inspriation was drawn from every cosmo bride magazine and all the amazing Karen Willis Holmes Instagram posts! and LOTS of pintersting.

Were any aspects of your wedding D.I.Y? If so What? Not a huge amount was DIY- we used a lot of our local businesses.

The bomboniere were home made olive oil (my dads) and succulent jars (my mother in law made)

What advice would you give brides organizing their wedding? Take the time to enjoy it. Goes so quickly. My husband and I made sure we stopped a few times away from our guests every couple of hours and just look and say “wow”!

What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? TRY EVERYTHING!
