How did you meet your partner? TINDER SUCCESS STORY ☺
How long have you been together? 3 and half years, it's been extreme haha, we have a 17-month-old daughter and are 20 weeks pregnant with a little boy on the way, just bought our first home and got a Doberman puppy. No rest for the wicked.
Do you have a proposal story? Reece took me away to Rottnest Island for the weekend and we tandem biked around the island and he took me up to a big rock overlooking the ocean and asked me to make him the happiest ‘wife’ on earth hahaha typical Reece.
What was your wedding date? 22nd of April 2017
Location? Greens Place Reserve, Mosman Park, Perth WA
What made you choose there? We had our first date here and love to have picnics there also.
How did you find it? I used to live close by and we used to go for long walks along waters edge
Location? Moore and Moore building in Fremantle, WA
What made you choose there? Have been going there for breakfast for years, absolutely love the space
How did you find it? Highly recommend the venue to anyone who will listen, it was so relaxed and organized and its exactly how we like it, its interior fitted our theme of romantic whimsical so we only had to add vases of flowers and it was the perfect setting for us, the food was so delicious and kept coming all night too.
How was the weather on the day? The weather was absolutely beautiful. All week it was forecasted to be storms and we didn’t let that bother us and luckily it was beautiful sunny blue skies. (another plug for Moore and Moore, if the weather changed last minute, they offer a ceremony there for free.
Was there a reason you decided to get married on this date? Not really, our daughters first birthday was a few days after.
What were your favourite parts of the day? I was so excited to walk down the aisle to Reece, I didn’t even let nerves set in. The ceremony was so dreamy. Marrying Reece was the happiest moment and our celebrant Kristy had us laughing and smiling from ear to ear the entire time. She really made it such a memorable experience.
The Wedding Details
Theme? Romantic Whimsical
Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from? Pinterest and Instagram.
Were any aspects of your wedding D.I.Y? If so What? Reece made our invitations and Snap Printing printed them for free as a gift. In total, our flowers came to $200 for everything and were semi DYI. I chose what I wanted at the markets and my friend was kind enough to put them together. We made our own teepee, my sister made the cake, my other sister took the photos, my cousin filmed and my husband edited our wedding video (he’s a videographer). The boutonniere flora, decorative flowers, leaves and pampas for the ceremony were sourced from random walking trails. The venue was also BYO so we purchased all our alcohol from The Freo Doctor liquor store. They delivered the alcohol and even reimbursed for what wasn’t consumed.
Tell us about your wedding flowers. I went to the flower market and chose all the flowers for the bouquet and the vases 2 days before the wedding and then I had some girlfriends over to help put together all the vases the day before and my amazing friend Renee Ricci came and made up the bouquets, absolutely loved our flowers <3
Tell us about your wedding cake. My sister/bridesmaid made us our wedding cake, it was a double-barreled carrot cake with salted caramel buttered cream layers and cream cheese buttercream exterior with salted caramel drip. Yum!
Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions? My husband is half Chinese so we included a tea ceremony into the ceremony. I wore my mum's earrings.
Bridesmaids – who/relationship? I had my sister and 4 special girlfriends
Groomsmen – who/relationship? Reece had 4 friends from childhood
Wedding Gown (the most important part!)
Ella wore the Nadia slip with the Arielle long sleeve lace overlay
What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes? I think I had just seen photos on Instagram and my friend had just got married in a Zanzis gown.
Where have you seen our gowns (if at all) before? Instagram
How many gowns did you try? 4 or 5.
Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)? Perth Karen Willis Holmes boutique
What did you especially like about your gown? The long sleeves, fine and classic lace and the cute keyhole to give it a little old school edge. It was perfect gown for me. It was romance and classic all in one, LOVE.
Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier? Asos
What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party? I wore my mum's earrings and the girls all wore there own choice of jewelry.
Where did you get your shoes from? Betts
Did you wear a veil/headpiece? Where did you get this from? It was from my bridesmaid's wedding (something borrowed!)
What advice would you give brides organising their wedding? To enjoy the experience, it doesn’t have to be stressful and remember what’s most important, for us creating the perfect ceremony and making sure we had good food and music for our guests was the most importance and everything else just fell into place. We also got to spend a lot of the day and night together which I’ve always been told wouldn’t happen.
What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip? The ceremony was the most important. We didn’t really splurge on anything as we were very savvy...We skipped a DJ as we wanted our own very thought out playlists and Spotify worked a treat.
What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? Choose something you feel comfortable in and that represents you. I also think it's important to choose something that won't date. What I LOVE about Karen Willis Holmes is they are timeless elegant pieces.
