Emma & Luke's Relaxed Classic Wedding

Emma & Luke's Relaxed Classic Wedding

How did you meet your (now) husband? We actually met through my brother, who went to university with Luke.

How long have you been together? We have known eachother for around 10 years and been together for 7

Do you have a proposal story? Luke flew me up to one of my favourite places – Byron Bay for my 26th Birthday. We stayed at the Byron at Byron where we had stayed the first time we visited Byron Bay together. On the morning of my birthday we went out for beautiful breakfast and a walk on the beach, we found a nice quiet spot to catch some rays – I turned around to grab the towels out of the bag and when I turned back he was on one knee! It all went so quickly (it really isn’t like a scene from a movie!!) but it was absolutely perfect. I think I jumped on his knee and hugged him, then we both went for a swim in the ocean and realized I hadn’t even said yes in all of the excitement!! The answer was definitely YES!

The Wedding

What was your wedding date? January 25th 2015

Location (Ceremony and Reception)

1.     Where?

Both ceremony & reception were at The Deck, Circa St Kilda, Victoria

 2.     What made you choose there? We both wanted a really relaxed wedding, somewhere we knew our guests would have fun and dance the night away! It was the best of both worlds, with a beautiful indoor setting (we had a sit down reception) and a gorgeous deck which was perfect for a summers night – our dance floor was out on the decking under the stars!

How was the weather on the day? We were so lucky to have the perfect day – I think it was about 24 degrees, the sun shone when it needed to and there was so much dancing I don’t think anyone felt any cold in the night! We woke up the next morning to rain – perfect weather for a hangover!!

What made you decide to get married on this particular date? It was actually the eve of Lukes 30th Birthday and also Australia Day Eve – we both wanted to get married in summer and when we looked into the venue all of the Saturday’s were taken. When they mentioned Sunday 25th January was available - it was just meant to be! Knowing that everyone would have the day off for Australia day the next day and that we could continue the party after the wedding to celebrate Lukes 30th birthday (although we didn’t last very long!!) we were sold!!

The Wedding Details

Theme (if any – colours, features, etc.)? “Relaxed with a touch of class” We both wanted a colourful, relaxed & cheerful wedding! I had festoon lights in my mind from the start and our amazing florist designed the most beautiful colourful flower chandelier & flower pole to bring in the garden feel. Our friends had actually had a flower pole at their wedding and we were both obsessed we just had to have one (but we made sure ours was uniquely different so we weren’t copy cats!)

Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from? Honestly, I wasn’t one who had my wedding planned in my head since I was a little girl. So when we got engaged it was so exciting searching different ideas on instagram – The Lane was an awesome site to check out for inspiration. I started very “boho” looking at lots of outdoor weddings, and we kind of put our own sense of class to it. I was so happy with everything in the end!

Were any aspects of your wedding D.I.Y? If so What? We did a DIY signing table, I borrowed a friends poloroid camera and set up a “selfie stand” where our guests were asked to take a picture of them selves, then stick it in our book and write a note. It was cute and super funny to look over the next day!! The photos got funnier as the night went on as you can imagine!

Bridal Party

 1.     Bridesmaids – who/relationship?

I had 5 bridesmaids:

Jacqui Jayesuria – Sister in Law

Laura Jayesuria – Sister

Bree Pagluiso – Friend and business partner

Claire Falconer – Friend (lives in Dubai and flew over for the wedding)

Victoria Brown - Friend

2.     Groomsmen – who/relationship?

Luke had 5 groomsmen:

Ange Angelodemou – Best mate

Chris Katsenevakis – Best mate

Joshua Udorovic – Cousin

James Jayesuria – brother in Law

Fontaine Adrianopolous – best mate

3.     Flower girls/Page boys – who/relationship?

Our ring barer was our little French Bulldog “Frankie”

He was walked down the aisle with my Mum wearing a silver bow tie and the rings tied in a little bag around his neck. So cute!!

Wedding Gown (the most important part!)

What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes?  It’s actually a long story!!  I was originally having a very good friend of mine design and make my dress, we were in the late stages of the design – we even had the sample dress made and I just wasn’t happy with something. My friend told me to go for a shop down High street to find the neckline that I thought suited me best, I had been down the other end of High street originally and remembered I didn’t find anything so I decided to start at the top end. KAREN WILLIS HOLMES was the first shop I walked into, and my dress was the first dress I put on!! It fit like a glove and I knew straight away it was the one!! Then I had to confess to my friend I had found the dress I loved in a store, and also pray that the girls at KAREN WILLIS HOLMES had enough time for the fittings (I found the dress in December, to be married in January – oops!) The girls, and my friend were all wonderful and understanding! It ended up working out perfectly!

Where have you seen our gowns (if at all) before?  I actually have some saved on my phone from my original researching on instagram – the gowns caught my eye with their relaxed feel, with a touch of glamour. They are all so beautiful, and not too traditional which was exactly what I was after.

How many gowns did you try? ….haha!

Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)? High Street, Malvern. Beautiful store and the ladies were so helpful.

What did you especially like about your gown? My gown was an off the rack purchase, the heaviness of the material fell beautifully. My favourite part was actually an addition, I had always wanted a low back wedding dress. The dress was originally a V back, but not low. I made a call to the girls in store to see if we could alter the dress, and they were very accommodating. We pinned it up and down and created the most beautiful backless feature!!

Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier? SABA

Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits? Jack London

What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party? I always wear an array of colourful bracelets on my arm, from friends, trips to Bali and bits and pieces along the way. I had to keep that as a bit of a trademark so I changed them all to white beaded bracelets, and also wore a pair of my mothers pearl earrings. They suited the dress perfectly.

I didn’t want to take away from the girls stunning silver dresses so I bought them some simple stud earrings. It was simple, and perfect!

Where did you get your shoes from? I actually found them on Chapel street at Zomp! Im a bit of a bargain hunter, picked them up on sale for $90! They were ivory point shoes with a clear acrylic heel. It was a bit of a miracle actually - I had fallen in love with a pair in Scanlan & Theodore which were similar, same heel and colour! Just a little out of my price range!! I did buy my after party outfit from Scanlan which I absolutely adore!!

Did you wear a veil/headpiece? Where did you get this from? I decided to go against a veil, and just had some pin pearls put in my hair to keep it simple.

What advice would you give brides organizing their wedding? Stress less, everything falls into place on the day – never forget what it is all about (you & your partner – nothing else matters!)

There is actually an awesome website: www.weddingservicematcher.com.au where you can type in your budget and what you need from venues, celebrants all the way down to flowers & stationary. Once you have given them the information, this is sent to suppliers and they contact you! So instead of you having to do all of the research and finding contacts its all done for you. Highly recommended!!

What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? Be true to yourself! Its so easy to get caught up in other peoples opinions. Make sure you feel comfortable – its always going to feel different as you don’t wear a wedding dress every day!! But make sure when you put it on it makes you smile. And that you are comfortable (make sure you can breathe, sit down, and dance!)

Something Old? I don’t think I was wearing anything old!! I really didn’t think of this on the day!

Something New?My Maid Of Honour bought me a new bracelet to wear on the day.

Something Borrowed?I borrowed my mums pearl earrings.

Something Blue? One of my bridesmaids snuck into my room the night before my wedding and tied a little blue bow on the inside of my dress.

All of our suppliers were amazing – made the day run smoothly and put a big smile on our faces!!
