Halle + Nick's Earthy California Wedding

How did you meet your partner? Nick was my older brother's best friend in high school. We crushed on each other all throughout high school & started dating when I was a junior.

How long have you been together? We have been together for a little over 2 years.

Do you have a proposal story? Nick proposed in the San Diego airport, he was flying home from his MOS school with the Marine Corps for Thanksgiving & he got down on one knee right when he saw me at baggage claim.

The Wedding

What was your wedding date? December 31, 2016

Location? Ethereal Open Air ResortEscondido, CA .

What made you choose there? Nick and I both always dreamt of a very organic/earthy wedding.  We found Ethereal through The Knot and both loved the idea of a glamorous wedding while still incorporating an outdoor & woodsy feel. The venue fit us perfectly and could not have been more authentic to who we are together.

How was the weather on the day? It actually rained on our wedding day but we were super thrilled to have a moody aspect to our photos, and hey, it's good luck, right? Haha! We had so much fun with our bridal party in the rain!

Was there a reason you decided to get married on this date?  We picked New Years Eve because we wanted to end 2016 on a great note & begin a New Year together, married. We actually had a small planned elopement on November 25, 2016 & we still wanted to have our wedding to celebrate. Thus, we chose NYE!

The Wedding Details

Theme (if any – colours, features, etc.)? Color scheme: blush & pink tones with notes of gold and navy blue.

Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from? Pinterest ALL THE WAY!!!

Were any aspects of your wedding D.I.Y? If so What? We created our own seating chart & guest table signage.

Bridal Party

Bridesmaids – who/relationship? Emma Salute; best friend, Hannah Kneebusch: sister in law, Eleni Wilkes: sister in law Zoe Skandalakis: sister in law and Abbi Romo: childhood friend.

Groomsmen – who/relationship? Tasos Skandalakis: Nick's brother, Zach Kneebusch: Nick's brother in law, Ethan Kneebusch: Nick's brother in law, Evan Pilette: Nick's best friend and Colin Lee: Nick's childhood friend.

Wedding Gown (the most important part!)

Halle looked divine in our 'Tillie' lace crop and 'Alexia' skirt from the D.Y.G. collection.

Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)? Elle Bridal Boutique,  San Diego, CA.

How many gowns did you try? I tried on about 5 gowns & knew right when I tried my gown on, it was the one.

What did you especially like about your gown?  They fit true to size & are flattering to most figures. Not to mention the exquisite attention to detail on each and every Karen Willis Holmes gown!

Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier? I had all the girls search for a different style, blush-toned dress that they felt comfortable in. Most of them found their dresses from Lulus

Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits?  Nick wore his Marine Corps Dress Blues. The groomsmen: Men's Warehouse.

What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party? We all wore simple rose gold jewellery. I wore small, drop earrings from Kendra Scott (so cute) !!

Where did you get your shoes from?  I wore lace Toms in white!

Did you wear a veil/headpiece? Where did you get this from?  I wore a beautiful greenery/flower crown designed by my florist: Modern Bouquet. My bridesmaids wore greenery crowns.

What advice would you give brides organizing their wedding? Don't sweat the small stuff. Enjoy the season of wedding planning, because it's over before you know it. It can be stressful but try your best to find gratitude for excitement ahead.

What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? The dress is about what YOU love. Don't let anyone influence what makes you feel beautiful for your groom.

Anything extra that is special or you would like to share about your big day.  Take time to slow down & look around on your wedding day. It flies by, soak it in & don't let anything or anyone kill your vibe - you're marrying your love!!

Photographer – Andrea Stewart from Kindred Collective.

Florist - Modern Bouquet - Her work is AMAZING. I could not have asked for a better florist.

First Dance -  Tenerife Sea: Ed Sheeran. Nick picked this song within the first few months of our relationship & told me this was the song he imagined for us.

MC - Pacific Entertainment. Adam did an amazing job keeping the party going, all through the night!

Stationery - Minted. They made my invitations + thank you's a dream come true.

Menu - Ethereal coordinated all of the menu from their own chef who was absolutely outstanding.

Cake - Lisa from Battery Up Bakery made the most amazing vanilla + pink champagne, 3 tiered cake. Nick and I broke tradition and ate the top tier of our cake on the night of our wedding because it was just TOO GOOD.

Bombonieres - Glam By Madzzz. Madison did an amazing job on my hair + make up. I would highly recommend her if you're located in the San Diego area.
