Hannah & Brendan's Hobart Wedding

Hannah & Brendan's Hobart Wedding

How did you meet your (now) husband? We met back in 2009, playing against each other in opposing social basketball teams!! Not long after being on the court we caught each others eye, and before we new it I was shooting three pointers over Brendan’s head (of which I have not let him forget)! The following weekend, we ran into each other in a pub in Launceston. Brendan asked for my number which I very gladly passed over! The next morning I woke up to a text from Brendan asking me out for lunch. He had me laughing the whole time! After that we had more dates and adventures, however it didn't take long before we both new there was something very special between us.

How long have you been together? We met in 2009 and we became engaged in 2011 (yes, our engagement was a tad on the longer side…!)

Do you have a proposal story? Brendan’s proposal was very special. We were in Bali, and had just come back from a dinner cruise. We hadn’t been back long before Brendan told me there was a little surprise in the room for me. After a bit of looking, I lifted up my pillow to find a gorgeous white ring box. I opened it to find it was empty, turned around, and Brendan was down on one knee, he had had the ring in his pocket!

The Wedding

What was your wedding date? 27/2/2016

Location (Ceremony and Reception)

Ceremony - Princes Park, Battery Point Hobart.

Reception - The Long Gallery in the Salamanca Arts Centre, Hobart.

What made you choose there? We are a very relaxed and fun loving pair, and never wanted a wedding that was too formal. I had always wanted a garden wedding, and Princes Park was full of lush greenery and gorgeous flora at that time of year. Picking our reception venue was a little trickier. We wanted to be able to provide our own beverages and food, whilst it also being in walking distance to the reception. The Salamanca Arts Centre ended up being the perfect venue where we could provide everything how we wanted it!

How did you find it? By looking around, and researching on the Internet mostly.

How was the weather on the day? The weather was stunning! We were so lucky, especially in Tasmania the weather can be quite unpredictable, even in summer!

What made you decide to get married on this particular date? Only that the weather often more reliable in late February!

The Wedding Details

Theme? I had Jodi from A Cat Called Jo style my wedding, and it was the best decision we ever made! From our first meeting I knew she would be perfect and create beauty from my vague ideas. I knew I wanted greenery in the for of foliage foliage and natural tones for both the ceremony and reception, and the end result was just stunning, beyond what I could have imagined. We had rows of green foliage hanging from baskets on the roof, festoon lighting over the dance floor, gorgeous pastel coloured flower centre pieces, her husband Ben even made us some specific pieces of furniture including bar tables and the bar! Jo had a brilliant idea of attaching a marble look decal/sticker to the front of the bar which gave it an even classier look. Ben and Jodi also made the most amazing archway for our ceremony, which fit in so well with the surrounds. We had bentwood chairs and parasols for the guests use, to ensure they were comfortable during the out door ceremony.

Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from? Mostly form Pinterest and Instagram, and Jodi!

Were any aspects of your wedding D.I.Y? If so What? We had cupcakes which were literally Do It Yourself, as we had a ‘Pimp Your Cupcake’ table! We had rows of delicious cupcakes with plain icing, surrounded on the table with bowls of lollies, chocolates and gorgeous cupcake toppers! Throughout the night our friends and family had the opportunity to decorate their cupcake how ever they wanted. It was very fun, and very ‘us’!

Wedding Gown (the most important part!)

What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes? I looked in to Karen Willis Holmes, after I saw a couple of friends wearing her dresses. After scrolling though the website, I found several that I absolutely adored, and new that one of those dresses would be the one.

Where have you seen our gowns (if at all) before? On social media, and on the internet.

How many gowns did you try? I think I tried on five in total.

Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)?

I travelled to Melbourne, to the Armadale store. The ladies I encountered here were just wonderful, I could not speak highly enough about them. They were absolutely professional and made their service ever so personable.

What did you especially like about your gown? The back of the gown absolutely won me over! I adored the quality and delicateness of the lace overall, and the way the train fell, however the scalloped edging along the back (which was also along the train) was just beautiful.

Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier? The Bridesmaids dresses were Pilgrim, and were purchased from Myer in the CBD of Melbourne.

Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits? The Groom’s suit and entire outfit was from Les Lees in Hobart. We also encountered impeccable service here, and would recommend suit purchases here to anyone. The groomsmen's ties and shirts were also from Les Lees, however we allowed our groomsman to wear a black suit of their choice.

What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party? I wore Samantha Wills earrings which complemented the Karen Willis Holmes belt perfectly.

I gave my bridesmaids a beautiful Samantha Wills ring, as well as a bracelet and earrings made by local Hobart jewellery designer, Francesca.

Where did you get your shoes from? My shoes were from Tony Bianco, however there were my year twelve ball shoe! They were perfect for this occasion however, and were still as comfy and gorgeous as ever.

Did you wear a veil/headpiece? Where did you get this from? I didn’t have a vail, however wore a gorgeous headpiece made by Jeanette Maree.

What advice would you give brides organizing their wedding? Do whatever depicts and is YOU! We had so much fun on our day, because everything we organised and did was Brendan and I in a nutshell. We didn't have to spend copious amounts to do this either, its just about being true to what you love!

What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? Its wonderful to have family and friends offer guidance and support when it comes to picking a gown, however you need to select what you feel absolutely gorgeous in. Remember, the day is about you - you want to feel comfortable and beautiful, and when you try on the dress where you feel these things regardless of what others may say, go with it!

Anything extra that is special or you would like to share about your big day? We did a few little extra things to make our wedding truly “Webb” style! We had an over all hash tag which was #The2016NewlyWebbs. We also chose names for our guests tables which added a little extra character! We also did not have a Bridal table. Inspired by my cousin Naomi, Brendan and I sat at our own ‘table for two’ in the middle of the room, and had everyone on tables around us. Although everyone new what table number they were at, we did not specify which seat they were required to sit, at each table. We wanted people to sit where they felt comfortable at their table, and wanted to promote guests to move around and Pimp Their Cupcake, have a photo in the photobooth, relax in the couch area away from the music, or even just chat with people from other tables. Brendan and I also did a quiz on the night! We had a list of several questions about us which were directed to the guests! We had four answers for each question , the guests had to chose which they thought was correct. This was absolutely hilarious and was a little activity that summed up Brendan and I.
