AutumnalWhen you know, you know. Hannah unexpectedly met the man of her dreams through mutual friends at her local Church. After a short 6 months of courting, they both knew there was no-one else they would rather be with than each other. A year later, they wed in Sydney, at St Andrew’s Church in Roseville- a meaningful spot for the pair as this is where they initially met. Their stunning Autumnal reception followed at The Public Dining Room in Balmoral, the area where Josh proposed to his true love.
How did you meet your (now) husband? We actually met at our local Church! We had a few mutual friends and once we were introduced, we never separated!
How long have you been together? We’ve been together 1 year and 8 months. We were engaged after 6 months of being together and married a year after that. A whirlwind romance, but I knew he was the one.
Do you have a proposal story? We agreed to have a date day – I organised the morning, he organised the afternoon. I wanted to go to Balmoral for breakfast – it’s our special place. He refused, wanting to go to Manly. Already off on the wrong foot as it was MY morning to organize, we plodded off to Manly. Come the afternoon, he rushed me down to Balmoral for a picnic. Once I had gotten up to get a coffee, I turned around to find him on one knee with my perfect ring. It was a big YES and off to get a warm coffee and tell our families.
What was your wedding date? Saturday, 21st May 2016
Location (Ceremony and Reception)
Where? The Ceremony was at our Church, St Andrew’s Roseville. It’s a beautiful old church and it’s being redeveloped soon so we had to make sure we were married in time! The reception was at The Public Dining Room down at Balmoral.
What made you choose there? Balmoral beach is our special place. We had our first date there and plenty more after, we were engaged there so it made sense to get married at the same spot! I love the The Public Dining Room because it’s simplistic, chic and you don’t need much to make it look and feel amazing.
How did you find it? We’ve eaten there before so we knew the food was amazing! The staff were INCREDIBLE and it was such an easy experience. It was definitely top of our list.
How was the weather on the day? Absolutely perfect. About 23 degrees, sunny and a little cloudy in the afternoon but it was amazing weather – we were incredibly blessed as May can be hit or miss with the weather!
What made you decide to get married on this particular date? We initially wanted to get married in March but my parents wanted us to get married in September so we made a compromise. Looking back, I’m so glad we picked May. It was just beautiful and went well with our theme which was very much autumnal.
The Wedding Details
Theme? Autumnal. We kept it very simple with creams and whites as my bridesmaids were even in cream. We kept the flowers as the stand out feature – lots of greenery, magnolia greens, maroons, reds and dark florals. It was perfect. The boys were in a deep navy and white and it was a great match.
Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from? The season. We didn’t want it to look like summer when it wasn’t! The sunsets were dark and cloudy and I loved the ideas of maroons and greens as a feature. Our florists were amazing and kept the florals simple, lush but had beautiful hints of colour too.
Were any aspects of your wedding D.I.Y? Our wedding favours – we had a friend make the marshmallows and we packed them. I loved doing that with my family and bridesmaids a few days before!
Bridesmaids? Steph Kelly – (Maid of honour) my best friend from school & Rachel Cain, another friend from school.
Groomsmen? Christian Tozer – Best Man/Best friend & Harry Wright – Groomsmen/ Brother
Flower girls/Page boys? My flower girl and page boy were incredibly special to me. Roxy, my flower girl was a little girl I have babysat from when she was born to her now being 4.5 years old! She absolutely LOVED feeling like a princess and I’m so glad she was a part of my day. Our page boy was her brother, Mason.
Wedding Gown (the most important part!)
What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes? I’d looked at heaps of places before coming to Karen Willis Holmes and I just couldn’t find what I wanted. To be completely honest, I felt disheartened every time I stepped into a store. The service at Karen Willis Holmes was AMAZING and the dresses fit so I could really see what I would look like as a Bride. Bonnie, who assisted me was so helpful in finding something that I wanted. I knew exactly what it was but couldn’t put it into words. I wanted something simple, chic, structured, not too fluffy and lacy but at the same time. She ended up finding an amazing dress - the 'Kitty bodice & Karly skirt' combination which I had altered to add straps. I had the beautiful 'Tillie' crop lace overlay for the ceremony which I took off come the reception and I had a completely different dress – it was the chic, structured gown I always wanted!
Where have you seen our gowns before? I used to work in media so I used to look at them lots in VOGUE brides and also online
How many gowns did you try? So many I lost count!
Where did you purchase your gown from? Paddington, Sydney.
What did you especially like about your gown? I loved how interchangeable it was. I loved that I felt amazing in it. I loved it fitted my body exactly (which is hard seeing as my upper body is a different shape to my lower half). I loved that the seamstress knew what she was talking about and would never let me ruin it by altering it too much. I walked out, feeling like I had a dress which fitted my body perfectly!
Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier? Fabulously Yours, Turramurra.
Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits? TM Lewin
What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party? I had some beautiful pearls for the ceremony. Simple and understated. For the reception, I changed into some beautiful marble Samantha Wills dangle earrings and amazing matching bangle.
Where did you get your shoes from? Nine West
Did you wear a veil/headpiece? Where did you get this from? Yes, from Karen Willis Holmes.
What advice would you give brides organizing their wedding? Just enjoy it! It’s stressful, full on, especially with so many competing options but just enjoy it. No matter what happens on the day, it will be perfect.
What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? If you’re like me and a little bigger on the bottom, don’t be disheartened. It means you haven’t found the right dress yet. You’ll know when you put it on, that it’s made for you.
Anything extra that is special or you would like to share about your big day.
