Hatun + Tom's Intimate Noosa Wedding

How did you meet your partner? We met 8 years ago traveling in Colombia on a trek called Ciudad Perdida (Lost City). We have been friends since.

How long have you been together? 10 months (8months when we married)

Do you have a proposal story? We were traveling in Nicaragua. It was a beautiful day in Playa Madeiras both of us in the hammock chilling. Tom had just come back from a surf and decided right in that moment that we should marry even elope - That was December 28th, 2016.

The Wedding

What was your wedding date? Instead of eloping, we decided to have a quick wedding with just our family on the 29th of April 2017.

Ceremony Location? Casuarina Gardens, Noosa.

What made you choose there? Tom is from the Sunny Coast so I thought it would be nice. Plus, we both love the ocean so it made sense.

How did you find it? It was perfect, weather, location and set-up. The space was perfect for our small intimate group.

Reception Location? Dinner at Seasons Noosa- They were very accommodating and flexible at such short notice. We had canapes and drinks to start then a 3 course sit down dinner. We had an open bar so there were plenty of cocktails going around.

What made you choose there? Location, the menu and availability for our intimate wedding group. There were patrons at the restaurant who congratulated me the whole night and witnessed a couple of our speeches. This was kind of sweet.

How was the weather on the day? Perfect! Not a cloud in the sky!

Was there a reason you decided to get married on this date? Once we decided to get married we could not have it happen quickly enough- I guess it was 8 years in the making...We got back from Mexico and Nicaragua 15th of January 2017.

The Wedding Details

Theme? I am always inspired by simplicity. I wanted something elegant that would be in harmony with the surroundings. The flowers were mostly native and colours were muted. My dress I wanted something soft and billowy. I wanted the day to reflect our relationship.

Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from? Wedding Photo Mag and a few photos of Lily Aldridge at her wedding. Splash Events who did the set-up were very easy to work with and executed my ideas brilliantly. My beautiful sister was integral in helping me decide the final touches.

Wedding Gown (the most important part!)

Hatun looked stunning in our  'Natasha' silk skirt and 'Zoey' bodice from the D.Y.G collection.

What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes? I had no idea where to begin, my time was limited (about 2months) It was the first place I walked in (chosen because I liked the dresses in the window). The girls in the shop were incredible so helpful and quick to find a solution for me. I was nervous and had zero to no time. We tried a few pieces and the two piece was something that caught my imagination- I had my girlfriend Amy there to help me with the decision. Shiva, called the seamstress to see if it was possible to turn this around in two months. Luckily it was -I purchased it then there - funnily enough it was the first dress I tried. I tried 3 more just-in-case.

How many gowns did you try? 4

Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)? Karen Willis Holmes - Melbourne: High St Armadale.

What did you especially like about your gown? It was a two piece. The bodice was strong and flattering the skirt was soft and delicate. I loved that I had the option of wearing it as a one or two piece. My seamstress was so helpful and the slight adjustments made the whole piece come together beautifully. She sensed I was nervous about the two piece and sewed in a little press stud at the front that kept it together. She is a magician! We just had a post-wedding party with friends and I was able to wear the bodice with a pair of pants for a more cocktail look.

Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier? Kookai

Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits? Tom's suit was from Jack London and the groomsmen wore his own suit.

Where did you get your shoes from? Jo Mercer

Did you wear a veil/headpiece? Where did you get this from? Mum bought me my single tier veil.

What advice would you give brides organizing their wedding? Simplicity is key.

What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? You just know when you try it on that it’s the one for you. Don’t ask for too many opinions otherwise, it clouds your judgment and you end up with something that’s not you. If something does not feel/sit right say it because I learned there is always a solution.

Anything extra that is special or you would like to share about your big day? Our photographer was amazing. I knew I wanted her as soon as I saw her photos. It’s important to feel comfortable and the real moments are captured. Our Celebrant Jan was perfect, she also married Tom’s groomsman a couple of years back.

Something Old? Engagement ring

Something New? Dress

Something Borrowed? Tom’s sister Eliza had a beautiful bracelet she lent me.

Something Blue? Tom’s eyes - he will be cringing at this right about now ha-ha.
