Highlight Stockist / Sphere Collective

We. Love. Sphere Collective.  The new kids on the block on the Sunshine Coast ooze style and class, whilst tapping into those effortlessly cool beachy vibes. SC stocks Karen Willis Holmes and other amazing Australian designers, fit for the modern bride.

Sarah the owner lives and breathes her business and the Sunshine Coast lifestyle.  She is up early swimming in the ocean, making brides dreams come true by day before collapsing in exhaustion in the early evening.  She finds comfort in the crazy, as this is her passion and she never loses motivation to drive her business and life to where it needs to be. We took a few minutes to look into how she founded SC and what makes her tick.

Your name? Sarah

Store name? Sphere Collective
Where is your store located? On the beautiful beach esplanade of Maroochydore, Sunshine Coast

Tell us a bit about yourself and how you started your store? I come from a background of hair and makeup before getting into the fashion industry where I worked as a stylist in Sydney. Styling is my thing, I love it. I was lucky enough to work with so many different professionals in Sydney. Magazines, department stores, designers, hair and makeup artists and personal clients. Then I fell in love with a boy in Noosa (as you do) and after a long distance relationship, I decided it was time to move to Noosa, QLD.

I wanted to continue my work here of styling and fashion and the Sunshine Coast is known for its beautiful wedding locations and suppliers, I thought it was the perfect place to launch Sphere. I wanted a space for brides and women to come and feel comfortable to just play dress ups. Maybe try something they would have never picked out themselves. I took a risk and went for more modern pieces and designs, also adding not your average bridal accessories that would be a special investment, for not just brides but bridesmaids but for all women. It took a year of planning and I worked three jobs to get it going, then finally opened the doors last October.

What does a typical day for you involve? Sounds crazy, but it starts at 3:45 am. My partner and I get up and do a workout then have a coffee together at 5 am, he goes off to work and I will go for a swim in the ocean or a walk along the beach. It’s the only part of my day that isn’t interrupted and it really makes me feel calm and collected ready to start the day. 6am-7am I will check emails and respond to my international designers and have a skype session or phone call to chat about new designs orders deliveries etc.
By 9 am I am at the boutique and answering more emails, setting up for the day, steaming prepping.  10am-6pm is manic! I’m in bridal appointments, seeing clients, answering emails, answering phone calls, making orders, following up orders, planning events, shoots, advertising. Researching new gowns, looks, styles. Personal shopping for brides, clients. Plan outfits and looks, answer more emails. (try on a few gowns somewhere in there) 6pm/6:30 pm I’m home and literally exhausted. Dinner is usually cooked by 7 pm and I am in bed by 7:30/8pm!
It’s crazy but I love it.

Why do you love your job? Because I love fashion, I literally get to play with fashion all day every day and there is no better feeling than putting a look together for a bride or slipping her into a gown and she feels like the most beautiful person in the world!  You can literally see them feel so beautiful about themselves, that’s the best part.

What are your favourite KWH gowns and why? Lottie, hands down!. I’m a sucker for sequins - the cut and shape of Lottie is perfect amounts of modern, sexy and classic. It’s so different yet so simple. It’s also a gown you can have some fun with and really style up in different ways.

What is it your clients love about a KWH gown and who do you see as the ‘KWH bride’? Clients love KWH for the classic and sophisticated cuts and shapes, yet the fabrics, textures and designs have the modern edge. There is something about wearing KWH gown that just makes you feel super special and like a total bridal. The KWH bride is stylish and classic.

What are your tips or advice for brides searching for their gown? Try everything on. I always get my brides to, even if it’s something they don’t necessarily see themselves in, I still like to get them to try everything on so we can see what styles, cuts, fabrics, textures work and don’t work. Then we can start to narrow it down to their style and what suits them.

What is your coffee order? At 5 am it’s a double shot skinny latte ¾ full (I’m one of those painful coffee customers) at 9 am it’s a bulletproof coffee.

Favourite city? Sydney. Although I’m pretty sure I’m going to fall in love with NYC later this year.

Best way to spend $50? Wine

Best advice you ever received? Go for it and don’t sweat the small stuff (as hard as that is not to!)

Anything else you would like to share with brides-to-be about your store and what you offer? We offer exclusive one on one appointments. A full hour is dedicated to you. We will work with you to help find your perfect style and look. Encourage you to try things you might not have thought and let you enjoy the hour of feeling like a total bride! Our job doesn’t just finish with your gown, we love to work with our brides to help find and create your full bridal look.
Most importantly we want you to visit and really enjoy your experience, with a cheeky glass of bubbles along the way.
