Your name? Ross Andrewartha
Tell us a bit about yourself, who you work for and your role. I am the Director of Artistry for Yves Saint Laurent Australia, I manage the creativity and education for the brand. I am also a freelance makeup artist - specialising in weddings and editorials. I do all of this from Melbourne Australia.
What does a typical day for you involve? I never really have a typical day as so much can happen in one week. However, I could be working on shoots/ shows/ workshops/ new product innovation and educating makeup artistry.
Why do you love your job? I love that I have creative freedom, I love working for a brand that inspires others and working alongside great people. I also love making women feel their most beautiful on their big day.
Where do you find your inspiration? I really get my inspiration from overseas trips - from the people living in cities from Tokyo to London, something new is always happening and faces really inspire me.
What would be your dream creative job? I would love to spend a little time in the US and see how the US makeup industry can push my boundaries.
The hunt for the perfect make-up artist for your wedding day can be overwhelming. What are your tips or advice for brides-to-be to help them with their search? I think referrals are essential for any bride and a trial. You need to connect with your makeup artist and be comfortable and confident in their execution. Weddings are a feel-good day - you want everyone on board feeling amazing!
What bridal makeup trends do you see being strong for 2017/2018? Berry-stained lips, a rich dark red. If these aren’t your colours, then warmer darker smokey shades on the eyes have defiantly trended this year, If you do not feel comfortable with either of those options, a classic liner with a lash is just beautiful.
What are the 3 essential beauty products every woman must own? Shu Uemura cleansing oil, Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat, Urban Decay Shape Shifter.
Favourite city? I actually love Montreal, just fell in love with this city!
What is your coffee order? Strong Latte
Describe your typical Sunday morning. I like to spend a lot of time down the coast, so I like to wake up do a beach walk and head for a coffee and then read the domain, dreaming about the house one day I can afford.
Best way to spend $50? Black Hearts and Sparrows in Fitzroy North - the best bottle shop going around!
