Jessica & Justin's Elegant Wedding at The Grounds of Alexandria

How did you meet your (now) husband? We meet out one night in Sydney CBD, Justin would say it’s his English charm that won me over (he’s probably right!)

How long have you been together? 3 years

Do you have a proposal story? We have an amazing proposal story…Justin surprised me right before Christmas on 20th December 2014 and we drove out to Bankstown Airport. I was really nervous thinking we were going to jump out of a plane however it turns out he’d booked a scenic helicopter flight over Sydney. As we were flying over Manly Beach he told me to look down on the beach and there was his family holding a “Will You Marry Me?” banner and then he popped the question.

The Wedding

What was your wedding date? 22nd November 2015

Location (Ceremony and Reception)

Where? Ceremony and Reception held in The Garden of The Grounds of Alexandria

What made you choose there? We’d been for breakfast there probably a year before we got engaged and thought the place had a really great vibe. It was the first venue we looked at for the wedding.

How did you find it? Instagram

How was the weather on the day? Quite overcast in the morning and then sunshine right before our ceremony at 6pm.

What made you decide to get married on this particular date? We wanted a spring wedding because it was an ideal time for family and friends from the UK to attend and spend a few weeks in Australia before Christmas. As it was a garden wedding, the time of year was the perfect fit.

The Wedding Details

Theme? Contemporary Garden Chic

Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from? Absolutely everywhere: Instagram, Pintrest and magazines

Bridal Party

Bridesmaids – who/relationship? Jasmina (Best friend)

Groomsmen – who/relationship? Patrick (Grooms brother)

Flower girls/Page boys – who/relationship? We are blessed to have four gorgeous nieces Jazmin, Danielle, Mia and Summah who absolutely stole the show on the day.

Wedding Gown (the most important part!)

What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes? I had seen quite a lot of gowns featured on wedding blogs and Instagram and really liked the style of the dresses which were unique and contemporary.

Where have you seen our gowns (if at all) before? HELLO MAY, Karen Willis Holmes website, Cosmopolitan Bride (I think this was the magazine I first noticed Karem Willis Holmes)

How many gowns did you try? About 20!

Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)? David Jones Bridal

What did you especially like about your gown? The sheer neckline and all the sparkle! I never thought I would pick the dress that I did and actually shied from anything beaded or sequined but once I tried it on, it was absolutely the one.

Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier? My Matron of Honour was expecting her first child so we had bought a number of dresses as we didn’t know what exactly would fit given she lives in Alice Springs…in the end it ended up being a dress from ASOS that I had seen 6 months prior and was sold out that was suddenly back in stock! She looked gorgeous and glowing as a Mum to be!

Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits? Calvin Klein

What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party? Justin bought me a gorgeous Kate Spade bangle to wear which I was surprised with on the day.

Other accessories were from Samantha Wills

Where did you get your shoes from? Wittner

Did you wear a veil/headpiece? Where did you get this from? I wore a gorgeous two- piece veil from David Jones Elizabeth Street

What advice would you give brides organizing their wedding? Have fun and enjoy the planning – it’s as relaxed as you make it!

What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? Try on as many different styles and approach with an open mind

Anything extra that is special or you would like to share about your big day? Justin and I were very lucky to be able to have our two grandmothers attend the wedding (one of which had travelled all the way from Birmingham in the UK)
