Jessie + Noah's Brooklyn Wedding

Background

How did you meet your partner? At work. We work at a charter school named Achievement First Apollo in Brooklyn, New York.

How long have you been together? 4 years.

Do you have a proposal story? We were at a friend’s wedding in Siena, Italy and Noah had been planning to propose there for some time. We drove to Florence the next day with some close friends of ours. Florence is one of my favorite cities so we went to walk along one of my favorite spots along the Ponte Vechio. He proposed on the bridge there and the next day he surprised me with a week trip to Paris, France. He had gotten the week off for us from work and everyone knew except for me.

The Wedding

What was your wedding date? 9/23/17

Ceremony & Reception

Location? Dobbin St. Venue in Greenpoint, Brooklyn NY.

What made you choose there? We loved the vibe. It is a restored warehouse with a rooftop. There is a modern and fun feel.

How was the weather on the day? The weather was much hotter than we expected it to be. It was like a summer day and it was so sunny out guests had to shield their eyes during the ceremony on the rooftop.

Was there a reason you decided to get married on this date? I wanted to get married in the summer and he wanted the fall because he didn’t want to sweat in his tux. However, it turned out to be almost 80 degrees so he was hot regardless.

The Wedding Details

Theme? There was no theme. We just wanted it to be fun and laid back with lots of fun and modern flowers. We had our wedding catered by our favorite BBQ restaurant in Red Hook, Brooklyn called Hometown BBQ. We also had a Ben & Jerry’s truck. We love food and we wanted our wedding to reflect how much we love food and how easy going we both are.

Bridal Party

Bridesmaids – who/relationship? I had 8 bridesmaids. All are close friends either from my childhood, boarding school or college days. Noah’s sister was also a bridesmaids. I feel really lucky to have a close group of girlfriends.

Groomsmen – who/relationship? His groomsmen were all also a mix of college friends, friends from home as well as his brother in law and my brother.

Flower girls/Page boys – who/relationship? Our nephews, Gabe and Bodhi were our flower boys.

Wedding Gown (the most important part!)

Jessie wore the  fully sequined Antoinette gown

What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes? I wanted to get my dress from a designer who had modern and simple designs that were both elegant and fun. I came across KWH online and it was the first store I went to. I only went to 3 other stores and hated everything that I put on. Stephanie at KWH truly listened to what I wanted and helped me find the perfect dress.

Where have you seen our gowns (if at all) before? Just online.

How many gowns did you try? In total probably around 20 gowns. The Antoinette was the first gown I loved and I told myself I should go to a few more places before deciding. When my Mom and I finally went back she said she knew all along that was going to my dress but didn’t want to pressure me.

Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)? NYC

What did you especially like about your gown? I loved how comfortable it was. I felt like myself in it and truly felt beautiful. I knew Noah would love it as well.

Fashion

Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier? I got my bridesmaid jumpsuits from BHLDN – Jill Stuart line. I wanted something fun that my best friends could wear again.

Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits? They all wore black suits that they owned. My husband got his Tux from Suit Supply in NYC.

What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party? I wore earrings from Lele Sadoughi. I love funky and fun earrings and wanted to make sure I was bringing my daily style to my special day.

Where did you get your shoes from? J. Crew

Other

What advice would you give brides organising their wedding? People find weddings beautiful and special no matter what. Don’t worry about appeasing others and make it your own. Reflect your daily style and personality because the day is truly about you. The process and the day of go by so quickly. Enjoy every minute of it and make sure you and your husband spend 5 minutes together right after the ceremony to enjoy each other.

What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? You have to be comfortable and it has to reflect you. I tried on gowns that were beautiful but weren’t me. I wouldn’t have felt like myself on my big day if I hadn’t picked the Antoinette gown. When Noah saw me he immediately fell in love with my dress because it reflected me.

Anything extra that is special or you would like to share about your big day.  It is the best day of your life.

Something Old? My grandma’s brooch that attached to the back of my dress.

Something New? My earrings

Something Borrowed? NA

Something Blue? The blue on my grandma’s brooch.
