Kate & Matt's Summer Garden Wedding

Background

How did you meet your (now) husband? We met through work in 2007 in Wellington NZ

How long have you been together? We’ve been a couple for 3.5 years

The Wedding

What was your wedding date?  21 Feb 2015 (also my birthday)

Location (Ceremony and Reception)

Where?     Mana Lodge, in the beautiful Hawke’s Bay in NZ

What made you choose there? We are both Kiwi’s so wanted to get hitched in the motherland with all our family and friends and Matt grew up in the Hawke’s Bay so that made our decision an easy one.

How was the weather on the day? Couldn't have asked for more perfect weather, it was a balmy 29 degrees, (that’s hot for NZ) and sunny however just before the ceremony it clouded over,  but the temp was still warm - which was perfect for photos. Thank you mother nature!!

The Wedding Details

Theme ? We wanted a summer garden wedding. We went with a softer palate of colours with a wee punchy pop of red.

Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from?  I drew a lot of inspiration from Pinterest as well as a few of my fav wedding blogs, Magnolia Rouge & Paper & Lace.

Bridal Party

 Bridesmaids – who/relationship?  Jane Myers - Cousin & Mikayla Myers - Sister

Groomsmen – who/relationship? Sam Gardiner - Friend &  Nick Dinneen - Friend

Wedding Gown (the most important part!)

What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes?  I had been to KAREN WILLIS HOLMES a few years earlier to accompany a friend of mine on her own wedding dress hunt. So when it was my turn to find a dress, it was clear in my mind to check out KAREN WILLIS HOLMES.

How many gowns did you try? I tried on three at KAREN WILLIS HOLMES.

Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)?  High St, Armadale

What did you especially like about your gown?  I loved the shape, and how it perfectly fit my body and I loved how comfortable I felt in the dress. I also absolutely adored the beautiful back detail!

Fashion

Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier? Miss Selfridge

What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party? I wore some Swarovski earrings and a Kate Spade bow bracelet. I gave the girls earrings to wear.

Where did you get your shoes from?  I got my shoes online from BHLDN

Did you wear a veil/headpiece? Where did you get this from?

I wore a veil for the ceremony - which I bought from Percy Handmade.

For a longtime I was sort of anti the idea of wearing a veil, however my mum & nana really wanted to see me in one.

I did a lot of research and finally stumbled across Percy Handmade online, they have some stunning veils & accessories. I found a veil that was perfectly fitting with my dress and style.

What advice would you give brides organizing their wedding? Try and be relaxed and not take things so seriously. The day goes so fast, and you don’t want to look back at it with memories of being stressed and nervous. I felt so calm the lead up to the wedding and on the day, and I am so glad because I was able to enjoy it all and be in the moment.

Trust the vendors you’ve hired to do their jobs, they are the professionals and don’t need the bride dictating how things need to be.  They know how to do their jobs.

What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? Be true to your own style and what you feel confident and comfortable in.

Florist - Toni McGregor of Magdalen Hill did an outstanding job with our flowers and also assisted on the day with styling the Marquee. Toni listened to all my ideas and helped me achieve the overall look we wanted. She was a big help as we live in Melbourne, it was great to have someone local to the Hawke’s Bay to assist us with sourcing the right lights and flowers etc for the wedding.

Photographer -  I was a fan of Meredith Lord’s work prior to booking her for our wedding. Meredith was amazing on the day, she felt like our friend which made taking photos with her really easy and comfortable. I cant recommend her enough, hire her for your wedding and you wont regret it!
