Katie and Andrew's Warehouse Wedding

Katie and Andrew's Warehouse Wedding

How did you meet your (now) husband?

We actually met on RSVP. Meeting a partner in a Bar or Club didn’t appeal to me so I thought I would give it a go. Andrew had just moved to Brisbane from Canberra and seemed too good to be true on paper. For our first date we had dinner and drinks that lasted for over 4 hours and although it seems cheesy afterwards I knew he was the one!

Do you have a proposal story?

Andrew took me on a surprise date for our 1 year anniversary to Australia Zoo. He had secretly planned a private tiger walk in the morning that included a photographer from the Zoo. While we were kneeling next to the tiger for some photos he reminded me not to scream, got down on one knee, said some beautiful things to me and asked me to be his wife. He was even sneaky and had the exact ring that I wanted made. It was so special and we are so lucky to have photos that captured it all.

The Wedding:

What was your wedding date?

Location (Ceremony and Reception)

Lightspace, Fortitude Valley

What made you choose there?

I work in Property so a warehouse wedding was a good fit. We loved that we could make the space ours and unique. Andrew loved that he’d never been to a wedding in a venue like it and we were able to have both the ceremony and reception in the same space.  This suited the guests that were coming from Canberra to not have to travel between venues.

Our wedding colors were Black White and Gold. Although the venue is a converted warehouse and looks a little more rustic we knew we wanted a modern formal wedding, so the colors seemed to bring some extra glam to the space. We used patterns and textured fabrics and mismatched items so it wouldn’t look too put together.

Bridal Party:

I had my MOH Kelly who used to work at Karen Willis Holmes, 3 Bridesmaids Eden, Julia, Prue and a Bridesman Addam.

Andrew had 2 Best Men, Alex and Enzo and 3 Groomsmen Jeremy, Marko and Dave.

How was the weather on the day?

Perfect, we couldn’t have asked for a better day in September. It was a little cloudy which according to our photographer was a great thing.

What made you decide to get married on this particular date?

Sounds silly but we wanted a date that sounded nice that we would remember and that one just seemed right.

Wedding Gown (the most important part!)

What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes?

My MOH Kelly was the manager at the Paddington Store when it was first opened by Karen Willis Holmes. When I first visited the shop with her I knew I would one day be buying my dress from KAREN WILLIS HOLMES.

Where have you seen our gowns (if at all) before?

Magazines, Website, Instagram

How many gowns did you try?

About 20

Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)?

Paddington in Brisbane

What did you especially like about your gown?

How I felt in it, it was the first one that I wanted to try on and I loved that it had curves almost built into it so the way it sat on my waist and hips was amazing. I knew my husband would want me to look a little bit sexy and it was perfect! He loved it

Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier?

White Runway – They were by Pia Gladys Perey and were perfect for my girls as I wanted them to feel comfortable and special on the wedding day as well. They all wore the same color which was actually picked by Andrew and they choose their own dress style to suit them.

Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits?

The Suits were Issimo from Spurling in the Queen Street Myer Centre.

What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party?

The girls wore a bracelet and earrings from Forever New. Addam wore engraved cufflinks I had made for him and the bow tie and pocket square was made from the train of one of the girl’s dresses. I wore the beautiful black sash from KWH, a bracelet and rings from Swarovski and my earrings were borrowed from a close family friend and were from Canturi Jewels.

Where did you get your shoes from?

My Mum bought them for me from Peep Toe just before they closed down.

Did you wear a veil/headpiece? Where did you get this from?

My veil was borrowed from Kelly my MOH and it was from KAREN WILLIS HOLMES from when she was married.

What advice would you give brides organizing their wedding?

Start planning as early as possible, be realistic about your budget, negotiate with suppliers as there’s no harm in asking, enjoy the process, but most of all make sure you wake up on the wedding day and let the stress and control go so that you can take it all in and enjoy your wedding day!  Even when things go wrong (which they will) remember why you are there, how much you love the person waiting for you at the end of the aisle and that in the end, nothing really matters apart from the two of you celebrating your love together.

What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown?

Make sure you have an idea of what you want but stay open minded. The staff at KAREN WILLIS HOLMES are there to help, so again enjoy the process. They do all look different on a hanger and if a friend or family member has a different opinion remember that it’s you that has to love your dress.

Florist :

Peony Perfection. All of the flowers, including the centerpieces were made out of silk as I wanted Peonies but they weren’t in season in September and this was the best alternative as I will be able to keep my bouquet forever.

Photographer :

Todd Hunter McGaw (BEST PHOTOGRAPHER EVER!!!!) His photos are so different and amazing and he and his wife Alyda were so much fun to deal with the entire time.

Kim and Chris Sheehy who were both on The Voice. They were fantastic, so we are lucky they are friends of ours.

First Dance:

Iris – The Goo Goo Dolls

Bek Day, a very special friend of ours. She’s known Andrew for years and is a writer so she had some great material as well as a lip-synced video with all our friends, that had the whole room in stitches.

Joshua Withers

Minted Online, the website had a lot of templates to choose from but we were also able to customize the designs to make them unique. The website was so easy to use and shipped from the US really fast.
