How did you meet your partner? How does anybody meet these days ... online dating!!
How long have you been together? 2.5 years
Do you have a proposal story? Graeme surprised me. He is such a hopeless romantic so naturally, I presumed if there was to be a proposal it would involve a grand romantic gesture, but instead he asked me one evening as I was heading to bed, I was not expecting it at all!
What was your wedding date? 7.4.17
Ceremony – Location? The garden at Circa 1876 at The Convent, Hunter Valley
What made you choose there? The whole place felt like we were in someone’s beautiful family home. Comfortable yet very special. The gardens and décor of the restaurant took our breath away. The staff was so helpful and nothing we asked about was too hard to arrange.
How did you find it? We knew the Hunter Valley was going to be the location, with friends and family coming from overseas we wanted to make a full weekend of the occasion. We had another venue in mind but arranged a last minute appointment at Circa 1876 and we were convinced very quickly it was the place for us.
Reception Location? Circa 1876 restaurant
How was the weather on the day? – Sunny, warm and clear, a perfect autumn day.
Was there a reason you decided to get married on this date? We love a Friday wedding and April is our favourite month of the year.
The Wedding Details
Theme? Rustic, garden with a hint of tradition. We knew the venue was so special and decorative itself which meant we didn’t have to do too much, we simply added some touches of natural greens, whites and pinks.
Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from? Previous weddings we had attended and the local Hunter Valley area. We knew what looked good together.

Wedding Gown (the most important part!)
Katie looked divine in our 'Nerada' gown from the KWH by Karen Willis Holmes collection.
What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes? I saw the dresses online and knew they were special and would suit my taste. They jumped off the page at me.
Where have you seen our gowns (if at all) before? I hadn’t until I researched, now I have met many brides that have had a KWH creation and all love their dresses.
How many gowns did you try? 8 (I think) I could have tried them all on, we had the best time. I tried on dresses I never thought would interest me. I knew I wanted a halter neck, so had the 'Johanna' gown on top of my list, but I had never thought about having a sequined gown. Then I tried on one of the sequin encrusted bodices and changed my mind completely. A few days after I had been in, the store called to say that the perfect dress had just come in for me, the 'Nerada'.
Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)? Paddington, Sydney
What did you especially like about your gown? Loved how it sparkled in the sunshine and how it fitted me, it was so comfortable and fitted perfectly. Like it was made for me!
Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier? Zimmerman
Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits? MJ Bale, Woollahra
What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party? I wore family pearls and the bridesmaids wore some Oroton jewelry.
Where did you get your shoes from? Tony Bianco, we all wore the same shoes, just in different colours.
Did you wear a veil/headpiece? Where did you get this from? Yes, I wore a veil, it was my twin sisters.
What advice would you give brides organizing their wedding? Relax, don’t over complicate things. Pick what really matters to you and your groom and what will make it the best day for you. Oh and don’t be afraid to delegate!
What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? Try everything on, rule nothing out but also figure out what suits you, you can look at dresses on other people for days on end but nothing is like seeing it on yourself.
Something Old? We had pinned a small Alfa Romeo badge inside the dress that was my car loving Dad’s.
Something New? Dress, shoes, rings, everything!!
Something Borrowed? Veil, clutch.
Something Blue? The KWH bow (that we sew into the inside of all our dresses!).
Photographer – Little Black Bow Photography, Newcastle. Dea made it such a fab day, you would barely know she was there (except for her big hair!!), she was perfect for the relaxed, informal style we wanted. I’m trying to find another family event we need to have a photographer at so so can come and play with us all again.
Florist – Florals by Sarah. Sarah Tan. She is such a creative and inspiring florist/stylist. You can tell she loves creating and styling weddings so had no reservations in giving her creative control of the day. She even stayed on for the weekend and decorated the lodge we had hired for our families for the day-after celebrations.
Music – Beth Gleeson; for the ceremony and drinks, canapes on the lawn after. We struck gold with Beth, she was amazing, such a talented woman, learned new songs for us and was truly a special addition to the day.
First Dance – Bryan Adams, Heaven (Acoustic).
MC – Katie Boland, Gill Hay
Celebrant – Caroline Hamilton Smith
Stationery – Minted and Piper Carty.
