Katjusa + Bostjan's Mystical Slovenian Wedding

How did you meet your partner? We met in high school years. He often went to the gym with his friends to watch our volleyball training. He got my attention with really loud cheering which was really annoying but boys will always be boys. Because we lived in the same part of the city, we often met on the street or when I went out to party. There was something about him but because I wasn’t sure what that was, I convinced myself that I wasn't interested in him at all. One nice evening when I went out to party with my girls, we met again. There was just something special about him, and I said to myself that I need to give him a chance. From that night forward, we were inseparable.

How long have you been together? We've been together for 15 years.

Do you have a proposal story? He invited me to a trip to the seaside in a little romantic town called Piran (Slovenia). I felt that something was happening because he was very nervous and he didn’t want to tell me much information. He had that look ...For a long time, we walked around and talked about everything. In the meantime, I have already forgotten that there was something suspicious going on. We arrived at the small church of Piran. We walked up, to the top of the hill, where a little church of Piran is standing. There was an amazing view of the old town and the sea. To get an even better view, from the highest spot possible, we climbed to the top of the bell. I was looking at the magical view, breathing the fresh sea air, enjoying everything and then it happened. It was very emotional and unforgettable. I felt like I lost the ground under my feet.

The Wedding

What was your wedding date? September 2, 2017

Ceremony + Reception

Location? Villa Fabiani, Slovenia. Villa Fabiani is hiding in our beautiful country, Slovenia. It is located in a small village called Kobdilj, in the heart of the beautiful Kras (Karst).

What made you choose there? We wanted a quiet and intimate place, away from the city and masses of people. Villa Fabiani is definitely more than that. It is a place with very special energy, beauty and history. When we came to see the location for the first time, we immediately knew that it was it. It also had a wonderful and unforgettable venue.

How was the weather on the day? The weather was changing from minute to minute. Sunny one second and heavily raining the next. That didn’t bother us at all, we decided to enjoy the day as it was, so to us, the weather was perfect.

What were your favourite parts of the day? The day was full of good energy. We had a small, modest, intimate wedding, with close family members and our best friends. We wanted to keep the day stressless and relaxed with lots of fun.  I think we made it. Because of the constantly changing weather, we had to put the wedding venue in the interior, and I must admit, it was even more beautiful than the outside.

The Wedding Details

Theme? Green /Boho/ Chic wedding

Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from? Pinterest, Hello May, Green Weeding Shoes etc.

Tell us about your wedding flowers. My dream bouquet and other flowers and greenery decorations were made by wonderful creators from Sanjski šopek (Dream bouquet). I wanted a natural bouquet, with as much greenery as possible, but still noticeable. My bridesmaids were stunning with their bouquets and my daughter was even more beautiful with her flower crown. The table decoration exceeded all my expectations.

Tell us about your wedding cake. The wedding cake was made by Pcakes. For us, Pcakes is one of my favorite cake makers. Her creations are really beautiful and abnormally tasty. You can really feel the love that is put in them and just enjoy in every bite you take.

Bridal Party

Bridesmaids — who/relationship? The bridesmaids were my two sisters (Vanja & Tea) and my best friend (Jasmina).

Groomsmen — who/relationship? Best friend of Boštjan (Roman (mostly called Romzy- boyfriend of my bridesmaid Jasmina)

Flower girls/Page boys — who/relationship? My flower girl was my lovely daughter Tia.

Wedding Gown (the most important part!)

Katjusa wore the Tillie lace crop & the Natasha skirt

What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes? I saw myself more as a non-traditional bride. I didn't want to go to the wedding boutiques or stockists, so I started looking for a gown on the Internet. Then I found KWH gowns. I immediately fell in love. The gown was so stunning (you know how it is, if you are a future bride!) I just wanted that gown and no other. It took me a while, to make a plan, how to get my dream gown, and in the end, I succeeded. From Australia, the gown was sent to New Zealand, where my best friend traveled. She took the gown from The Bride Space in Christchurch and brought it to Slovenia. My wedding gown basically traveled almost half of the world! For helping me realize my plan in getting my dream gown, I am really grateful to my best friends Jasmina and Romzy.

Where have you seen our gowns (if at all) before? On the KWH website

How many gowns did you try? None ;)

Where did you purchase your gown from? The Bride Space - Christchurch, New Zealand

What did you especially like about your gown? Everything! The lace, the separates, the long sleeves. To me, it represented a clean, simple, bohemian look which I adore and I immediately saw myself wearing something like that on my wedding day. When I got it, I was a bit nervous because I didn’t know how it would fit, but the second I put it on, I felt absolutely fabulous which is what is most important and I felt like me in it.  I was and I still am really happy with my decision. The gown got the attention that it deserves and made the day even more perfect. Thank you!

Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier? Lulus

Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits? Massimo Dutti and Sens

What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party? Stunning earrings

Where did you get your shoes from? Vince Camuto

What advice would you give brides organising their wedding? Just be yourself and do not look at too many photos, because you can go crazy! Take your time and enjoy.

What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip? The most important thing for us was to create a relaxed atmosphere accompanied by good food and a good photographer.

What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? Trust and follow your heart.

Anything extra that is special or you would like to share about your big day.

It was an incredible wedding in the company of loving people. I would like to thank everyone who helped create our perfect day. We are more than happy with how the day went and grateful for everything.
