How did you meet your partner? Very cliché – but we met at work!
How long have you been together? 4 years
Do you have a proposal story? We were living and working in the Solomon Islands, a small island in the Pacific. I was completely blown away when Coen surprised me with a trip to a beautiful resort on a tiny island. He took me to a secluded lookout and proposed, overlooking an incredible sunset.
What was your wedding date? 22/07/2017
Ceremony & Reception
Location? 48 Watt St, Newcastle, NSW
What made you choose there? We’re both originally from Newcastle, although we never knew each other back then, despite having mutual uni friends! We instantly loved this space – being an old church, the architecture is just so unique and gorgeous. All the stone and led-light windows just seemed to suit a winter wedding!
How did you find it? Word of mouth
How was the weather on the day? Unbelievable! It was a warm and sunny 24 degrees – coming from our home in Melbourne, it was balmy to us!
Was there a reason you decided to get married on this date? We just loved the idea of a winter wedding!
The Wedding Details
Theme? We used the amazing stylists ‘The Wedding Designer’ based in Newcastle. The girls were incredible, giving us the rich florals and subdued lighting whilst keeping it a bit modern. Lots of lovely greenery, blush pinks and deep burgundy flowers. We couldn’t have been happier.
Were any aspects of your wedding D.I.Y? If so What? Seeing as we lived in another state, we were just so relieved to be able to leave it up to the professionals, who we trusted completely.
Bridesmaids – who/relationship? My three best friends – Courtney, Bec and Mel
Groomsmen – who/relationship? Coen had his brother Alex, and best mates Chris and Will.
Wedding Gown (the most important part!)
Kim wore the Harper/Nina gown from the BESPOKE collection
What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes? My bridesmaid Courtney had pointed me in the direct of KWH – as I had always envisioned my dress to be simple and classic. As soon as I saw the Harper/Nina dress, I knew that was it. I didn’t even bother looking at any other designers.
How many gowns did you try? Only 2 gowns! I knew the Harper/Nina was my dress but thought I’d at least try on a different style to compare (the Aubrey dress) – but my decision had definitely been made!
Where did you purchase your gown from? Armadale, VIC.
What did you especially like about your gown? I have never felt more beautiful. It was just so classic, simple and incredibly beautiful.
Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits? The boys wore suits from M. J. Bale
Where did you get your shoes from? They came from the UK, made by Harriet Wilde
What advice would you give brides organising their wedding? Just try your best to relax and enjoy the process! Flexibility is essential, as many things will chop & change right up until the big day – but it will all work out in the end! Having our wonderful friends and family helping out helped to keep us smiling.
What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? If you’re trying on a dress and you can’t stop smiling – that's it. Nothing is more beautiful than a smile. You’ll know it right away.
