Ivory & Pearl, one of our gorgeous stockists in Ireland is hosting not one but two Karen Willis Holmes Trunkshows soon. One starting next weekend and the following over the Christmas break. See the bottom of this post for more information about these exciting trunk shows.
We took a few moments to get to know Kate & her beautiful store.
Your name? Kate Speers
Store name? Ivory & Pearl Bridal Boutique
Where is your store located? In a charming village just ten minutes from Belfast called Comber.
Tell us a bit about yourself and how you started your store? Ivory & Pearl has been opened nearly 5 years, which is hard to believe as it feels like just yesterday I had my mum traipsing around London choosing gowns for a little wedding shop, unknown to us it would soon be called Ivory & Pearl. I did Business Studies and had started another business as a hobby doing table decorations, sweetie carts, wedding signs etc. However, being in the corporate world for 7 years, I decided I didn't love my job as much as I should and wanted to do something that I loved and was wholly invested in.. and as I had some experience with weddings, from my own wedding and from opening Sprinkles of Love, I then decided 'why not' and as they say the rest is history.
What does a typical day for you involve? Ha, I wish it was more exciting but it involves getting two toddlers up, ready and out, then as soon as I arrive in the boutique the first thing I do is check my e-mails, although I usually reply on the go on my phone so there's usually not too many.
Why do you love your job? I love meeting new people and hearing their story, where they are from, what their job is and even an engagement story... or two!
What are your favourite KWH gowns and why? My all time favourite KWH gown is Caitlyn, the sequins are so different, the shape is phenomenal, and then... there's the back. Although I am also a sucker for a high neck gown, such as Cindy as my own dress was high neck.
Any great proposal stories from clients you have worked with? We have a real mixture, from Central Park to in a crisps bag sitting on the sofa. Everyone has their own story to tell, and will remember forever!
What are your tips or advice for brides searching for their gown? Don't look in too many boutiques, research online before hand for the vibe you are looking for, and go to the boutiques that have that style. If you try on too many dresses, you will lose all the fun and get totally confused!
What is your coffee order? Cinnamon Latte.
Favourite city? Oh that's a tough one, Hong Kong.
Best way to spend $50? Ice cream.. a lot of ice cream!
Best advice you ever received? " You can do anything.. but you can't do everything"
Anything else you would like to share with brides-to-be about your store and what you offer? At Ivory & Pearl we like to make everyone feel at home, we don't do the hard sell and you are free to have a look yourself. It is a lovely, comfortable environment!
