Do you have a proposal story? We had always planned on doing something epic after I finally graduated nursing school, so we booked a trip to Oahu in December 2015. One night while there, we grabbed some food and drinks and headed to the beach for a sunset picnic. It began to rain so we scooted under this tree that formed a perfect umbrella. It was here on the North Shore of Oahu, under this perfect little umbrella tree, during a beautiful Hawaiian sunset, in the rain, where Tim asked most important question of our lives!
What was your wedding date? 08/06/16
Location (Ceremony and Reception)
Where? The Coconut Palm Inn, Tavernier Florida in the Florida Keys, we did both ceremony and reception on their beach property outside.
What made you choose there? One step on that beach and you would know.
How did you find it? My cousin/maid of honor was married there 10 years ago.
How was the weather on the day? Beautiful but very hot!
What made you decide to get married on this particular date? We wanted as many family members and friends to be able to be there as possible, so we actually asked them when the best time would be. We ended up with 170 guests, the majority actually came down to the keys early and spent the week with us leading up to the big day. It was one huge beach family vacation!
The Wedding Details
Theme? I found these beautiful dresses for my brides maids from Show Me Your Mumu, and those colors were kind of what we went by from there on in planning.
Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from? We wanted everything to fit the setting: outside on a beach in the keys. Barefoot, fun, party atmosphere.
Were any aspects of your wedding D.I.Y? If so What? For the center pieces we cut down bamboo from our back yard and my mother created the flower arrangements inside of them.
Bridesmaids – who/relationship? All of my brides maids were my cousins. MOH- Cara, Meghan, Meagan, Kenzie, Hannah, Emily
Groomsmen – who/relationship? Best Man and Brother Robbie, My brother Kevin, Friends like family Bryan, Petri, Chris, Kenny
Flower girls/Page boys – who/relationship? We pretty much incorporated all of the kids that came to the wedding, so we had 7 flower girls escorted by 7 boys who had bubble guns used at the conclusion of the ceremony.
Wedding Gown (the most important part!)
What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes? I saw a picture of this dress on Pinterest, and knew it was the one. A tiny boutique a few hours north of me in Vero Beach Florida called Isabella’s Bridal was able to track down the one sample of this dress between photo shoots in New York and LA. She had it in her shop for 2 days. Before I even put it on, my mind was made up.
Where have you seen our gowns (if at all) before? No. I was not a bride who had ever envisioned what I would want my wedding dress to look like, I just knew it would have to be very unique.
How many gowns did you try? This was the only dress I wanted to try on.
Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)? Isabella’s Bridal Vero Beach
What did you especially like about your gown? It was very unique. I am not someone who would have worn a big ballroom bridal gown… this was very much my style.
Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier? Show me your Mumu.
Where did you get your shoes from? No shoes!
Did you wear a veil/headpiece? Where did you get this from? No
What made our wedding so special was that the majority of our vendors were our friends. The only outside vendors we didn’t bring with us from West Palm Beach were for the bouquets and boutonnières, cake and rentals. The caterer was a restaurant I work of, The Foodshack. The DJ also works at The Foodshack as a chef. Hair and Make up was done by my friend, and the photographer was also a friend of ours. We asked my uncle JC if he would marry us, so he became an ordained minister. My uber talented cousin and bridesmaid Emily Schumer created all of our stationary. This was what I loved about our wedding the most.
