Nestled between the Strzelecki Ranges and Baw Baw the breathtaking Latrobe Valley is the perfect setting for a country celebration. Gippsland locals Marley and Nick couldn't believe their luck when they stumbled across Callignee Hall. This quaint venue offered them the flexibility they wanted to create the relaxed rustic event of their dreams.
On the proposal
'Nick proposed late one night after he had finished work. It was in my late Grandma's house that we had recently bought and renovated. He came home acting really bizarre and serious, it was completely unexpected. We had both of our fur babies there and it was just perfect.'
On the venue
Marley and Nick wanted something local, cost-effective and low key. It was also important for them to be able to host the ceremony and reception at the same venue and so Callignee Hall was a perfect choice.
All the styling details
With the venue set these two lovebirds busily set about busily handmaking the props for their big day. The bar was made out of two very old wine barrels they had picked up from an old vintage market and an old TV cabinet they had lying around, the botanical centerpieces were picked from a friend’s garden and the signage was handwritten by one of their friends. Along with their friends and family, these two not only made almost everything themselves but they also set up the entire venue beforehand, lighting and all!
Marley looked stunning in the 'Mabel/Nina' combination from our D.Y.G collection. Purchased from our Melbourne boutique. If you want to try this gown on, she has now been updated to the Harper/Nina gown.
'One of the girls I worked with had worn a Karen Willis Holmes gown and suggested I come in for a look. I only tried on two dresses instore and knew right away that the 'Mabel/Nina' gown was the one! It's simplicity and the fact that it was traditional with a modern twist suited me perfectly.'
'I wore a ring that my nan gave me before she passed, which was so special.'
'Don’t look outside your budget and you won’t end up disappointed! Enjoy the organizing and lead up because it is over before you know it, oh and eat the food ... I forgot to eat! '
Gown hunting tips
'Look online and get an idea of the designers you are interested in. Don't try too many on in the one day, and try not to let anyone else's opinions sway what you like. Most importantly enjoy it, it's so much fun! '
