Miranda & Adam's Tea Plantation Wedding

Background

How did you meet your (now) husband?  We met at a bar! We chatted for about 15 minutes and swapped numbers and then went on with our nights. Over the next month we had a couple of dates and just really clicked. Adam got a job 4 hours drive north about a year into going out and we did the long distance thing and then moved in together when he moved back to Brisbane, about 5 years ago.

How long have you been together?  7 and a half years

Do you have a proposal story?  It was our 6 year anniversary and I had finished work on a Friday evening. At home Adam had set up some of our photos on a slideshow on the TV and suggested we went out to the balcony of our home for some cheese and wine. He then pretended he was looking for the camera and when I turned back he had the ring and proposed. We then had dinner at our favorite restaurant.

The Wedding

What was your wedding date?  28 May 2016

Location (Ceremony and Reception)

Where? Madura Tea Estate (Camellia Weddings)

What made you choose there?  We are from Brisbane and knew we wanted to make a weekend out of the wedding and choose a location a bit outside of the city. We saw Madura Tea Esates before the reception venue had been built and were blown away by the landscape, we decided on the day it was perfect. We had eaten at Osteria and knew we loved their food. Having good food and drink was very important to us, so along with the beauty of the venue, it ticked all the boxes. Although at the time the reception venue hadn’t been built, but it was part of the fun in planning seeing it all come together. Being a Tea farm was also a unique aspect that appealed to us.

How did you find it? Through a lot of googling and finding the Casuarina Weddings website. As it was very new, Debbie (Casaurina Wedding Coordinator) suggested we see it on the day, so we had no expectations.

How was the weather on the day? Sunny and warm!

What made you decide to get married on this particular date? The venue had to get built so really that was the earliest date available. I think we were the 4th couple to book.

The Wedding Details

Theme? Because of the greenery of the tea plantation I wanted to choose colours that complemented this. Pale Lilac and purple became a bit of theme colour. The bridesmaids wore lilac and the groomsmen had lilac ties and Adam had a brighter purple tie. Our flowers were shades of purple, white and green.

Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from? Most of it from pinterest and Hello May blog.

Were any aspects of your wedding D.I.Y? If so What? Not really – we didn’t have a planner or stylist but most of our suppliers pulled it all together. I did all the menus and invitations and we had great friends who helped set up stuff like extra fairy lights, menus and bunting on the day.

Bridal Party

Bridesmaids – who/relationship?  I had five Bridesmaids and a Bridesman. My Sister Sylvie was my maid of honour. My Bridesmaids were Alex, Tahnee and Sarah (Friends from school) and Jodie and Scott (friends from uni)

Groomsmen – who/relationship? Adam had five Groomsmen Jordan and Nathan (brothers), Matty and George (Friends from School and Uni) and Gabe (Brother in law.

Wedding Gown (the most important part!)

What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes? My Sister lives about a two minute walk away and I have lived in Paddington Brisbane before and always admired the gowns in the window.

Where have you seen our gowns (if at all) before? Again from living in Paddington and from other friends getting married

How many gowns did you try? 4 gowns

Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)? Paddington Brisbane

What did you especially like about your gown? I loved how floaty, ethereal and romantic the 'Trinity' was. It was also the most comfortable to wear which was really important to me. I didn’t want to be overwhelmed by fabric but I still got to have a gorgeous train. I loved how it was two layers as well.

Fashion

Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier? The girls all chose their own dresses. Some got them made but mostly from ASOS

Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits? The groomsmen wore their own grey pants

Where did you get your shoes from? Kate Spade

Did you wear a veil/headpiece? Where did you get this from? I wore a gold flower head piece from Eugenia Kim

Other:

What advice would you give brides organizing their wedding? Ask friends who got married for help with suppliers. I got a lot of my suppliers (photographer and celebrant) from my sisters wedding.

What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? Don’t have any set styles in mind. It will all change when you try them on.
