Nada + Elliot's Modern Beverly Hills Hotel Wedding

Background

How did you meet your partner?  We met in 2008 in an agency boardroom in Melbourne. Elliot was a TV commercial producer living in Sydney and was doing a commercial for the wine company I was working for. The rest is history!

How long have you been together?  We’ve been together for 8 wonderful years.

Do you have a proposal story?  He popped the question on an early morning hike to the top of Park Güell in Barcelona at the very beginning of our European summer vacation.  I was 14 weeks pregnant with our son, Jack!

The Wedding

What was your wedding date? Sunday, 18 September 2016

Location (Ceremony and Reception)?
Ceremony:      Saint Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in San Gabriel Valley.

Reception:       The Beverly Hills Hotel, Los Angeles

What made you choose there?  My family is Serbian Orthodox and it was important to me to embrace those customs and get married in a traditional Serbian wedding ceremony.  We relocated from Singapore to Los Angeles in 2015 and The Beverly Hills Hotel is so iconic and has so much history.  We wanted guests who were travelling in overseas for the wedding to feel like there was little doubt where they were.  In the heart of B everly Hills, Los Angeles, California.  No other place in LA screams that more than the ‘Pink Palace’ (as the BHH is affectionately known)

How did you find it?  My husband chose it. I always imagined a more rustic, intimate, outdoor wedding setting. After some deliberation, I agreed to meet with the wedding coordinator and take a tour of the hotel. Needless to say, I fell in love with it straight away. The Sunset Ballroom was the perfect setting, with French doors, beautiful chandeliers, and my favorite feature, the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the pool and signature palm trees on Sunset Blvd. A quintessential Los Angeles backdrop.

How was the weather on the day?
It was a typical California day. Warm, blue skies, and with plenty of sunshine.

What made you decide to get married on this particular date?  We eloped a year ago and wanted to keep the same anniversary date.

The Wedding Details
Them? Keeping in theme with the iconic space, we decided on a Hollywood Glamour theme for the day. The hotel’s famous pink and white cabana stripe and Martinique wallpaper made appearances throughout the décor, while bold lavish floral displays and bright pops of pink and green played up the unique aesthetic of the ballroom.

Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from? The classic Beverly Hills Hotel décor and living in L.A.

Bridal Party
Bridesmaids – who/relationship? My sisters, Yoka and Natasha
Page boys – who/relationship? My nephews, Alexander and Nicholas

Wedding Gown (the most important part!)

Nada looked stunning in our 'Harper' bodice and  'Nina' skirt from the 'D.Y.G collection. See more here

What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes?
Knowing my style well, my best friend Tiffany suggested I should try on a Karen Willis Holmes wedding dress so I made an appointment right away.

Where have you seen our gowns (if at all) before? I never paid much attention to any wedding gowns before!

How many gowns did you try? 3 or 4

Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)? The Paddington Store in Brisbane

What did you especially like about your gown? It was elegant, timeless and comfortable. As soon as I walked out of the fitting room. My mum and sister both said, “Wow, that’s the one”.

Fashion
Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier? I let my sisters choose their own dresses. My only request was that they wear white. They decided on a floor length, fitted dress from White Runway.

Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits? Hugo Boss

What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party? I wore a simple Tiffany & Co pearl bracelet and my Bridesmaids worse earrings by Kate Spade.

Where did you get your shoes from? Christian Louboutin

Did you wear a veil/headpiece?  I wore a stunning Karen Willis Holmes Veil

What advice would you give brides organizing their wedding? If you’re planning your own wedding. Hire a wedding planner for the day of to take care of logistics and deal with suppliers. That way you can get ready and enjoy the day without getting interrupted.

What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? Try on styles you wouldn’t normally consider. You might surprise yourself. Allow plenty of time to find the perfect dress. Off the shelf dresses are limited and custom made dresses take months to order.

Anything extra that is special or you would like to share about your big day? Our son, Jack was also christened on the same day!

Something Old? My mother’s pearl earrings

Something New? My dress!

Something Borrowed? The cloth to bound our hands in during the ceremony

Something Blue? The bow subtly stitched into my gown. Loved that super cute detail!
