Naomi & Jason's Tweed Hinterland Wedding

Background

How did you meet your (now) husband? I met Jason at SurfCity Church in 2012.

How long have you been together? 3 Years

Do you have a proposal story? We had spoken about getting engaged for about 6 months, and Jason had been saving and designing my beautiful ring in that time. Jason had planned all these extravagant proposals, only to have me guess and figure them out before he had the to chance propose. We were going back to my family’s home for Easter 2015, and little did I know that he had planned with my parents to do it right there in the house I grew up in.

Whilst I was out with my mother, Jason set up my childhood bedroom with lights, roses and signs. After being blindfolded and lead to my childhood bedroom door, I was overcome by emotion as the man I had prayed for and waited for uttered ‘I  could have done this anywhere, but I wanted to do this in your safe haven, the place where you patiently waited and prayed for me to come, Naomi Maree Malcolm Will you marry me?’

The Wedding

What was your wedding date? 18.05.16

Location (Ceremony and Reception)

Where? Summer Grove Estate, Tweed Hinterland

What made you choose there? When we saw the view and garden ceremony area, we fell in love.

How did you find it? Via the Internet

How was the weather on the day? Absolutely perfect, couldn’t have asked for a better day!

What made you decide to get married on this particular date? We took our relationship to the next level and became official on the 18th of Jan 2014, so we had the 18th and then May just turned out to be the best month for family, friends, weather and work.

The Wedding Details

Theme? We loved the simple raw modern elegance feel. Lots of Dark Navy, White, Rich Green, Dusty Pinks.

Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from? I love looking through wedding magazines and drawing inspiration from non-traditional decorating. I combined everything that Jason and I find beautiful and made it into our day.

Were any aspects of your wedding D.I.Y? If so What? We had all of our signs designed by our friend, and all styling of the tables done by my brother. We chose and decorated our marble coasters for guests gifts also.

Bridal Party

Bridesmaids – who/relationship?

Maid of Honor – Sheree – I met Sheree at the SurfCity Church also, and she has become one of my biggest supports and beautiful friends.

Bridesmaid – Tiahna – I met Tiahna in primary school, and have continued to develop our strong lifelong friendship after high school. Tiahna is a friend of warmth and comfort, and adds a lot to my life.

Bridesmaid – Amanda – I met Amanda through Church also, and she has become one of my greatest friends who constantly encourages and inspires me.

Bridesmaid – Jessica – My beautiful 15 Year old cousin who is the most beautiful, kind hearted young woman you will meet.

Groomsmen – who/relationship?

Best Man – Justin – Jason met Justin at Church also, and they have been best mates almost straight away. Justin also had Jason as a groomsmen months after they met in 2013.

Groomsman – Nathan – Nathan is Jason’s brother.

Groomsman – Jamie – Jason has been close friends with Jamie for 17 years, they went through early learning and all of school years in the same year and same schools.

Groomsman – James – Jason and James share a long time of friendship, and have been closer than brothers after meeting when they started high school together.

Wedding Gown (the most important part!)

What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes? I saw a few Karen Willis Holmes dresses through the years of looking at beautiful weddings and thought that they were simply stunning and elegant on any size and shape.

Where have you seen our gowns (if at all) before? Cosmopolitan Bride Magazine and Karen Willis Holmes Instagram.

How many gowns did you try? 5

Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)? Paddington, Brisbane

What did you especially like about your gown? I loved how ‘Poppy’ felt like it was made for me. It flattered my shoulders and waist and made me feel elegant, beautiful and comfortable!

Fashion

Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier? We had someone make our bridesmaid dresses from an Audrey Hepburn inspired pattern that I found. We bought the most beautiful Silk from Silk Traders in Melbourne.

Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits? The Groom and Groomsmen’s suits were from Politix through Myer and were made in Midnight Navy.

What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party? I wanted to wear White Pearls on my wedding day, and Jason bought me a pair of beautiful handmade South Sea pearls as part of my wedding gift. I also wore a stunning White Pearl Bracelet that was passed down from Jason’s late Grandmother. Jason wore a Daniel Wellington classic slim watch and hand designed cufflinks.

Where did you get your shoes from? I got my shoes from Myer, Calvin Klein.

Did you wear a veil/headpiece? Where did you get this from? I wore a long rounded Ivory Veil from Karen Willis Holmes.

What advice would you give brides organizing their wedding? There is no rush in organizing your wedding, we had 13 months to create our beautiful day on top of working 3 jobs. Look for a bargain, but don’t sell yourself short also. You will have these memories for a lifetime. I would also suggest including both Photography and Videography as a must for your wedding day.

What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? Find something that you are wowed by and that you know your husband to be will love. Also find something that you feel beautiful and comfortable in.
