How did you meet your partner? I used to live with Jon’s brother – we met at a party at our house.
How long have you been together? 6 years
Do you have a proposal story? Jon proposed when we were in Japan for a holiday last year, where he planned a surprise itinerary for our first day in Kyoto. We walked to a temple called Kiyomizu-Dera to watch the sunrise and while we were there, Jon read a poem he had written and handed me an origami box he made. In the box was a long red ribbon with origami letters pinned on it that read ‘will you marry me’.
What was your wedding date? 15 April 2017
Wedding Venue? Montrose Berry Farm, Sutton Forest.
What made you choose there? It's magical gardens, cocooned by hundred-year-old pine and willow trees.
How did you find it? I can’t actually remember – we either saw a review of it somewhere or someone recommended it.
Was there a reason you decided to get married on this date? We liked April because it is so beautiful in the Southern Highlands, plus there’s a lower chance of rain. Not particularly romantic, but it worked out well for us!
The Wedding Details
Theme? We didn’t need to do much outside because it is just so beautiful at Montrose, but we tried to incorporate a very simple and neutral theme to the barn, with lots of greenery and white flowers, and subtle lighting with candles and fairy lights.
Were any aspects of your wedding D.I.Y? If so What? Pretty much everything, apart from the flowers. I designed most of the stationary, including the invites, menus and table cards (the rest from Etsy), we bought lots from Kmart (napkins, vases, candles), my dad made the gifts (limoncello) and the wooden card stands, and Jon made origami lily flowers for the place settings. We hired everything else from various suppliers, including the chairs for the ceremony and reception, benches for the grazing table and linen for the reception.
Bridesmaids – who/relationship? Emma (sister), Kate and Chanel (friends)
Groomsmen – who/relationship? Ben (brother), Dominic and Bradley (friends)

What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes? I wanted something that was simple but with beautiful fabric – and something that wasn’t incredibly expensive.
How many gowns did you try? At Karen Willis Holmes, only about three. I knew what I wanted before going in.
Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)? Paddington
What did you especially like about your gown? I loved that it was simple and classic, with beautiful fabric. I like that I could dance as weirdly as I wanted without worrying about moving my legs, that I could bear hug people and not worry about moving my arms, and that I could eat as much as I wanted (we had Italian for dinner!) without bursting out of my dress.
Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier? Zimmermann
Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits? MJ Bale
What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party? Jon gave me Paspaley pearl earrings as a gift on the morning of the wedding and I had a gold broach from my grandmother in my hair (she couldn’t be there on the day). The bridesmaids wore Samantha Wills earrings.
Where did you get your shoes from? Tony Bianco
Did you wear a veil/headpiece? Where did you get this from? Yes, from Karen Willis Holmes.
What advice would you give brides organizing their wedding? To keep it simple and enjoy the process.
