Olivia & Hersch's Soft and Romantic Wedding

How did you meet your (now) husband?

We met at a 90’s music night at a bar in Melbourne, nothing like a bit of Peter Andre or Spicegirls to spark a romance!

How long have you been together?  5 years

Do you have a proposal story?

We got engaged on a USA trip. We were in NYC in Central Park. Hersch was so nervous that he put the ring on the wrong finger, and it was 2 sizes too big, luckily we were so close to Tiffany’s on 5th Ave, we got it resized that same day!

The Wedding

What was your wedding date? 5th April 2014

Location (Ceremony and Reception) Where?

Ceremony at The Mill, Portarlington, Reception at Bellarine Estate Winery, Portarlington

What made you choose there?  The Mill was very different, nobody I know had been there which was nice

How did you find it?I searched endlessly for a place that was different, and I found The Mill on a wedding blog from a few years before, as for the Reception, Bellarine Estate was the first place we visited, and loved it!

Bridal Party

Bridesmaids –  My sister, Morgan

Groomsmen –  Hersch’s best friend Rudra

How was the weather on the day? On our wedding day, we were so lucky with the weather, the sun came out early morning, and stayed out all day, it was a perfect autumn day

What made you decide to get married on this particular date?  I love the month of April and autumn weather, and the 5th of April is also my parents wedding anniversary, it was their 34th anniversary on the day of our wedding which was very special.

The Wedding Details

Theme ?

The ceremony was held at the beautiful Portarlington Mill, an old building owned by the National Trust, which was once used as a Flour Mill. Our ceremony was short and sweet, we actually were seated for our ceremony, which felt very intimate and our lovely celebrant delivered the ceremony to us. My beautiful Aunty, and her friend, created an amazing 2m floral swag, which we got married beneath. I was actually lucky enough to spend the day with her, on an amazing Dahlia farm in Winchelsea, picking my own flowers for the wedding.

As the sun went down, we got photographs taken in the vineyards of Bellarine Estate Winery, where our reception was held, while guests enjoyed pre dinner canapés and drinks. The weather was perfect for guests to be outdoors, as they enjoyed some acoustic music, food and drinks. The rest of the night was perfect, the food was amazing, and everyone enjoyed dancing the night away, with Test Pilot Molly creating an amazing dance floor. We hired festoon lighting through Pepper Sprout Hire, which created a carnival like atmosphere in the dance floor.

As for our styling, I guess I just wanted the day to be simple, natural, pretty and a reflection of us. I did a lot of the styling myself, as I had spent months planning, pinterest-ing and collecting jars, vases, candles etc. I really wanted a soft and romantic feel to the wedding, without it looking too DIY. There were flowers galore, candles everywhere and the atmosphere really just felt amazing.

Wedding Gown (the most important part!)

What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes? I found the Kayla gown on the KAREN WILLIS HOLMES website and had to try it on!! A friend of my sisters, wore the Caitlyn Gown from the same collection, which is how I had heard of KAREN WILLIS HOLMES.

Where have you seen our gowns (if at all) before? A friend of my sisters, wore the Caitlyn Gown

How many gowns did you try? Probably about 6, all different styles just to see what suited me!

Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)?  Armadale store

What did you especially like about your gown?  Very different and so pretty! Nobody had ever seen it before!

Who helped you pick the gown/who shopped with you?  My mum!

Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier?  Elliatt

Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits?  Country Road

We often hear of difficulties experienced by the mother of the bride and groom in finding an appropriate outfit for the wedding day of their son/daughter, do you mind sharing where they found their outfits at all?

My mum actually purchased 3 outfits for the day, and it wasn’t until a few weeks before the wedding that she found the right one, and it was from a small boutique in ocean grove
