Last Saturday, we invited event stylist Dany Craig, who is the lady behind Pia + Jade Event and Interior Styling into our Alexandria Flagship boutique for a vendor day. Dany energy was contagious, her love for flowers, tulle and sparkles were well aligned with all of the things we love at KWH - it was a perfect fit! She set up a gorgeous floral installation in the store to captivate everyone and even ended up making a bouquet of flowers that brides could hold up as they tried gowns on they loved.
Thank you for your time and creativity Dany, we loved every second of it!
Your Name: Dany Craig
Location: NSW South Coast
Business name: Pia + Jade Event and Interior Styling
Let's start at the beginning. How did your business come about? I have always loved being creative and have a passion for interior design. I went to university to study Interior Architecture and during my final year, I was also planning my own wedding. I noticed that there was a gap in the market for stylists who didn't stick to the one aesthetic. Everything seemed very "cookie-cutter" and this week's wedding looked the same as last week's wedding! Determined to change this, as well as realising I was enjoying the hands-on creativity of styling my own wedding, compared to sitting in front of a computer drafting architectural plans, I launched Pia+Jade Event and Interior Styling. Coming from an architectural background, I believe my understanding of elements and principals of design give me a competitive edge. Not only do I look at what type of styling, colours and textures will work well in a space, I also look at proportion, scale and layout. The inspiration and ideas for styling then stem from the venue, the client's passions and personality and how they would like the overall wedding to feel. This ensures no wedding we style is the same and it oozes personality.
What inspires you? My late grandmother has been my creative inspiration throughout my whole life, hence why one half of the business is named after her (her initials are PIA). From the age of eight, I learned to sew, quilt, make dolls and bears, arrange flowers and attended quilting clubs on school holidays (the older ladies loved it!!) This gave me a good understanding of colour, texture and production from an early age. My inspiration these days comes from everyday life and the things I surround myself with. My in-laws have a farm which keeps me close to nature, my parents are mad collectors of antiques and old world treasures and I love to pour over fashion magazines and spend weekends wandering through furniture and interior stores.
How do you start your day? Emails, checklists, Instagram and tea!
What is your favorite thing about your job? Being able to create my own working hours, pottering around in our storage facility and seeing how happy and appreciate our brides and grooms are when they see what we have created for them on their special day. It's truly magic!
What is your advice to couples planning a wedding? Decide on three to four things that are most important to you and concentrate on those, everything else will fall into place. Don't sweat the small stuff either- no one will notice if you don't throw your bouquet or give out bonbonnieres!
Favorite city? Melbourne- home is where the heart is :) Family, food and the best shopping!!
Best way to spend $50? Bruch date with friends
