Rachel & Marc's Western Australia Winery Wedding

How did you meet your (now) husband? We met in 2009 at a Music festival, exchanged numbers and went for our first date a week later.

How long have you been together? We have been together for just over 7 years

Do you have a proposal story? We went for a Trip to Thailand last March where he proposed on Paradise Beach.

The Wedding

What was your wedding date? 18th March 2016

Location (Ceremony and Reception)

Where? Sandalford Wines

What made you choose there? We fell in love with the Oak Room for the reception, it was really different compared to most function rooms. Beautiful draped ceiling with a large chandelier for styling and rustic barrel lined walls. They are also a reputable winery and had been to their restaurant for a meal which was really good so we had faith in the quality of the food and wine that would be provided.

How did you find it? It’s in the Swan Valley which is the closest wine region to Perth CBD.

How was the weather on the day? I think it was around 30 degrees however our reception was out on the Verdelho lawn where they have a lot of large trees for shade so it was perfect.

What made you decide to get married on this particular date? When we went looking the year before they only had two Fridays left for the month of March. We based it on weather predictability and out of school holidays as both our families had to travel (Marc is English & I am from Victoria)

The Wedding Details

Theme (if any – colours, features, etc.)? My theme was green and white for flowers, I don’t think you can beat it – helps when my favorite color is green. I wanted everything to be less structured in relation to the flowers and styling. My florist did a lot of this for me, her description of it would be whimsical. We had the girls and boys in Navy to compliment the green and white colors.

Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from? Pinterest was a great help for bouquets and I just wanted as much greenery as I could around the venue, so once I had my bouquet the florist helped me with ideas of venue styling to match

Were any aspects of your wedding D.I.Y? If so What? I hired a few things from Heart Strings and Pretty Things and my Dad set them up for me on the morning of the Wedding. I made my seating plan using some crafts from a number of shops and a little IT skills for printing up the details. I also had a Polaroid guest book using a large wooden frame which all the details were DIY.

Wedding Gown (the most important part!)

What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes?  I found the dress in a wedding magazine and loved the individuality of it. I had also been to all the usual dress shops but didn’t find anything I liked, I was after something a little different.

Where have you seen our gowns (if at all) before? I didn’t know of Karen Willis Holmes until I found the picture in the magazine.

How many gowns did you try? About 15 at other shops – then came to your store specifically for the 'Johanna'/'Clarisse' Train combo and that was the end of my search.

Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)? Subiaco – and Brittany was fantastic.

What did you especially like about your gown? The halter neck, and the large train for the photos with the option of taking it off for the reception. I loved the lace and the low back, I loved everything about it.

Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier? David Jones - Shona Joy

Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits? Myer – Pierre Cardin

What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party? The girls just wore some basic pearls.

Where did you get your shoes from? Zu Shoes

Did you wear a veil/headpiece? Where did you get this from? My florist did a hair comb to match my bouquet.

What advice would you give brides organizing their wedding? Surround yourself with your closest on the big day & choose your suppliers not only based on how well they do their job but also how you relate to them personally. My whole day was relaxed and enjoyable and all that depends on who is around you including your suppliers / photographer / celebrant / makeup artist & Girls.

What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? You will know once you have the right one and its one of the most important parts of your day as if you feel great, it shows.
