How did you meet your partner? We went to high school together and started dating in Year 12. So I guess you could say high school sweethearts!
How long have you been together? 10 years
Do you have a proposal story? We both love the outdoors so Chris proposed on a ski trip at Perisher. We were out on the slopes all day (in a blizzard), did the night skiing and then went out for dinner. He presented me with a beautiful handmade, hand-stitched book with photos of us from over the years. It was so gorgeous and thoughtful - a very romantic proposal!
What was your wedding date? 29th April 2017
Wedding Venue? Bush Bank, Kiama NSW
What made you choose there? We both grew up in the Illawarra and knew we wanted to get married somewhere we felt at home. Bush Bank was the perfect south coast setting – historic homestead, rolling farmland and stunning views of the ocean.
How did you find it? Being locals, we knew of the property and I had been there once before. When we got engaged, we pretty much immediately decided that Bush Bank was the venue for us. And it was just beautiful there - exactly what we hoped for.
How was the weather on the day? Stunning. Clear blue skies, a warm autumn sun and no wind. We really couldn’t have asked for more beautiful weather.
Was there a reason you decided to get married on this date? Not really, but we both love autumn and the 29th happened to be right between both of our birthdays which was pretty neat. So a big two weeks of celebrations :)
The Wedding Details
Theme? We wanted to keep it pretty classic with some contemporary influences.
Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from? Where else….Pinterest!
Were any aspects of your wedding D.I.Y? If so What? We did most things ourselves, but had lots of family and friends helping out - we couldn’t have done it without their amazing help.
Bridesmaids – who/relationship? I had my sister and 2 close friends as my bridesmaids.
Groomsmen – who/relationship? Chris had his friends from university and uni exchange in the US as his groomsmen.
Wedding Gown (the most important part!)
Rhiannon looked divine in our sequin 'Agyness' gown from our KWH by Karen Willis Holmes Collection.
What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes? I did some research and I was drawn to KWH’s contemporary take on classic designs. I also loved that KWH is an Australian brand. That was pretty important to me in my decision-making process.
Where have you seen our gowns (if at all) before? Instagram.
How many gowns did you try? I went to two other places before Karen Willis Holmes and neither of them felt right. But the moment I walked into the Karen Willis Holmes Alexandria Emporium, the way we were looked after, the music, the gowns…I knew I was going to find what I wanted. I tried on 3 gowns and then just before we left, one of my bridesmaids suggested I try on a 4th – and it was the one, the gorgeous 'Agyness'! We all got tears in our eyes (which I didn’t anticipate at all!)
Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)? The Karen Willis Holmes Sydney Flagship Emporium in Alexandria
What did you especially like about your gown? The moment I put it on I just loved how comfortable and ‘me’ I felt in it. It was very much my style but also completely unlike anything I had ever worn before – so I was very excited to wear it for a whole day and for Chris to see it!
Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier? Warehouse, London.
Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits? Chris wore Anthony Squires.
What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party? I loved accessorising my gown with Dinosaur Designs earrings and a Lavish Alice jacket. My bridesmaids wore vintage pearls and jackets by Cue.
Where did you get your shoes from? BHLDN - Laura Porto ‘De Mer’ Wedges
Did you wear a veil/headpiece? Where did you get this from? Yes, a Karen Willis Holmes tulle veil.
What advice would you give brides organising their wedding? Focus on what’s actually important and let go of all the other stuff. And have some fun - it’s an opportunity to spend time with your partner and bring friends and family together.
What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? Be open to trying on different styles, you might be surprised what feels right once it’s on. And first and foremost choose something that makes you feel wonderful and expresses who you are.
Anything extra that is special or you would like to share about your big day. It was just such a magical day where everyone we love was there. Friends and family came from across the world to share the day with us and we felt so supported and loved - it was incredible. It certainly went quickly, but we both enjoyed every moment and will remember it always.
