How did you meet your (now) husband? Blake and I met in year 11 on a school camp. High school sweethearts
How long have you been together? 8 years this June 2015
Do you have a proposal story? Blake told me we were travelling to see our parents one weekend so my bags were packed and ready to go. When we go into the car Blake put a blindfold on me and drove me to O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat in Lamington National Park. For anyone who knows this location knows the drive there is hell and I felt so sick when we had only arrived at the bottom of the mountain. Blake let me take my blindfold off and it was another 20-minute drive up the range. At this point he said that he had organised a weekend away, which I though was so romantic of him. I didn’t think anything of a proposal at this stage because Blake’s Grandparents own one of the tree houses in this retreat so we have been lucky enough to stay here before as guests of the family. On the drive up Blake took a phone call from someone saying ‘we are running 10 minutes late’ which I thought was weird because it was early in the morning so we couldn’t be running late for check in. Once we got to the top Blake pulled into the luxury spa sanctuary that we had never been to before because the prices were ridiculously expensive. At this point I thought he was being so thoughtful because I had just come off night duty (I’m a nurse) and he wanted me to relax. We had a couples massage inside a beautiful room that overlooked the entire hinterland. After the massage Blake said we are going on a bushwalk. As we started to trek I noticed the name of the bushwalk was called ‘The wishing tree’. Once we had been walking for approximately 15 minutes we arrived at this beautiful old overgrown tree that’s roots were so large you could stand up in between them. Blake asked me to close my eyes and make a wish. At this point, like any girl would, I wished for Blake to propose to me…but he didn’t. I opened my eyes and he placed in my hand a love heart rock that we had found when we were on the school camp together in year 11 (where we met). Yes I cried J. Then we headed back up to the tree house to get ready for dinner. After I got out of the shower I noticed Blake had closed all the doors in the bedroom and told me to get dressed and ready. Once I was done he kissed me and told me to go into the lounge room to the Ipad on the kitchen table and watch the video. There were tea light candles all over the table and it was sunset outside. The video started with photos of when we first met all the way up until the day before the proposal. He had chosen our favorite songs as background music. At the end it said..’We have made so many beautiful memories together and I am ready to make a lifetime more… turn around’. And there he was standing in a circle of tea light candles kneeling on one knee. After his beautiful proposal we celebrated with a beautiful dinner at the guesthouse lodge.
What was your wedding date? 17.01.2015
Location (Ceremony and Reception)
2. What made you choose there? Once you visit you’ll just know. The scenery is just breathtaking, the food is exquisite and the staff is unquestionably the most professional people I have ever met.
3. How did you find it? I grew up on the Sunshine Coast so knew of it.
4. How was the weather on the day? The weather was perfect. Maybe a little too humid but the breeze throughout the evening evened things out. The sunset was incredible.
5. What made you decide to get married on this particular date? We never really had a date in mind when we got engaged. We knew we only wanted a year of engagement and Maleny Manor is a very popular wedding venue so it came down to what dates were available. We are so thankful for our date now because the vineyards were in the flourishing period so we had large dark grapes exposed throughout our photos, which are so beautiful. It also rained 4 days leading up to our wedding so the grounds we so green and fresh.
The Wedding Details
Theme? My theme was fresh flowers. All I wanted was to be surrounded but the most rawest and fresh foliage and to be able to breathe in that crisp moist smell of the hinterland. I wanted everything to have elegance and to draw away from the vintage/country theme that is so popular at the moment. As you can see in my photos I have flowers everywhere. I wanted to bring out the white of purity and add a pop of colour for freshness. After our wedding we donated all the flowers to a local nursing home to bring the same amount of joy the flowers gave us on our wedding day.
Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from? Pinterest played an important part of my wedding planning as well as blogs and magazines. I didn’t have a massive inspiration from something or someone. My main plan was to pick my venue then work around the surroundings. After picking Maleny Manor it was easy, it is a pure white cottage building surrounded by vineyards and beautiful blooming foliage. I didn’t have much to do in making things beautiful J
Were any aspects of your wedding D.I.Y? If so What? We made a couple of things ourselves but nothing arty crafty. We made a ‘Happily ever after’ wood sign that sat in the garden near the water fountain and two beautiful candles that had my grandparents names on them that sat in front of my mum and aunty.
