Yanna & Christopher's Traditional Wedding

How did you meet your (now) husband? We met through mutual friends

How long have you been together? 3 years

Do you have a proposal story? Christopher surprised me with a getaway to the Whitsundays. On our first night there he had organised a dinner at Clippers on Airlie Beach in their private gazebo. After ordering our meals, Christopher got down on one knee, of course, I said yes!

The Wedding

What was your wedding date? 27th Feb 2016

Location (Ceremony and Reception) Where? Kogarah Greek Orthodox Church & Dolton House Sylvania

What made you choose there? The Greek Orthodox Church in Kogarah is very special to me as my parents were married there and my brother and I were baptised there.

How was the weather on the day? It was supposed to be raining but luckily it turned out to be a beautiful sunny 30-degree day!

What made you decide to get married on this particular date? We wanted to have a summer wedding and just ended up deciding on the 27th and were lucky enough to have all venues and vendors fall into place once the date was picked.

The Wedding Details

Theme? White, lots of floral and silver.

Where did you draw your inspiration/ideas from? Pinterest & Instagram were my main inspiration and sources

Bridal Party

Bridesmaids – who/relationship?

Maid of Honour - Natalija who is my best friend of 23 years!

Bridesmaids - Kerri, Christopher’s sister,  Christie, my godsister and Patrice my cousin.

In Greek tradition, the best man “Koumbara” plays a very special part so I wanted to include his partner Theodora. She stood by my side on the day, however, did not wear the same as the bridesmaids. I let her pick something special herself.

Groomsmen – who/relationship?

Best Man - Billy, who has been Christopher best friend of 23 years

Groomsmen -  Andrew: Christopher’s Brother, Dimitri, My Brother, George, Christopher’s friend and Kurt, Christopher’s cousin.

Flower girls/Page boys – who/relationship?

Flower Girls - Mia & Nikoleta (my cousins) and Savannah, who I nannied for 2 years

Page Boys: Xavier & Dion (my cousins).

Wedding Gown (the most important part!)

Yanna looked stunning in our lace 'Annika' BESPOKE gown.

What made you decide to come into Karen Willis Holmes? Karen Willis Holmes came highly recommended from a friend who also got her wedding dress from Karen Willis Holmes, and from the second I walked in the store I knew I was about to find my dream dress.

Where have you seen our gowns (if at all) before? I did my research before coming in-store on Instagram and on the Karen Willis Holmes website

How many gowns did you try? 3

Where did you purchase your gown from (which store or stockist)? The Karen Willis Holmes Paddington, Sydney store.

What did you especially like about your gown? The corded lace and the bustier were to die for, that’s what I fell in love with the most.

Who is your bridesmaid dress supplier? Shakuhachi

Where did you get the groom and groomsmen’s suits? Groom’s suit was tailor made by P.Johnson Tailors and the groomsmen's suits were West End by Simon Carter (Purchased at David Jones)

What accessories did you choose to finish your gown and also for those in your bridal party? I wore Samantha Wills earrings, a tennis bracelet gifted by my parents on my engagement. The bridesmaids had Samantha Wills jewellery and Tony Bianco shoes. The groomsmen wore different patterned Happy Socks.

Where did you get your shoes from? My shoes were Aquazurra purchase from Frwd.com

Did you wear a veil/headpiece? Where did you get this from? Yes, a gorgeous lace cathedral veil by Karen Willis Holmes.

What advice would you give brides organizing their wedding? Try not to sweat the small stuff, it all falls into place in the end. And take a moment with your partner on the day to really soak in the emotion and atmosphere of the day.

What advice would you give brides searching for their wedding gown? Sometimes your dream dress can be what you least expected, keep an open mind and make sure the dress you end up choosing makes you feel amazing.

Something Old? A special brooch I wore on the inside of my dress that was from a monastery in Greece.

Something New? My shoes.

Something Borrowed? A horse show my aunt gave to me that she wore on her wedding day 40 years ago

Something Blue? The bridesmaid's shoes
